That's what I'm saying - there's 24 states with no teams and 4 with only one. So we might as well retitle the thread to Biggest Legend in Every State +DC with a Franchise. Otherwise it's just becomes a generic top 50 (or 51) list.

Yea but everyone knows Dwade and AD are from Chicago, Lebrons from Akron, Kawhi is from LA Carmelo is from NYC/Baltimore. There’s rooms for both where they’re from and where they played. It not too hard

Apparently not? Kawhi Leonard is from Moreno Valley in the Inland Empire. Close, but not Los Angeles by a long shot. Entirely different MSA. Just because it’s in its CSA doesn’t make it LA. That would be like saying someone from Upstate NY is from NYC just because it’s in the same CSA

If someone is from a state, whether born or raised, and excelled in college athletics in their home state that wasn’t surpassed by their Pro career then give them to that state. If not they have to go to their Pro team state. For those states without a Pro team you almost have to look to college or individual sports as most everyone not from that state will always associate that person with their Pro team.

I think many sports fans know that he's from Wisconsin, especially college sports fans.

I'm gonna have to differ from your opinion on an athlete shouldn't be associated from the state they were from though. Michael Jordan is just as much associated with North Carolina as Illinois. Magic Johnson is still very popular in Michigan and this gets mentioned during the tourney when he roots for MSU. Barry Sanders and Kansas. Mickey Mantle and Johnny Bench with Oklahoma. Roberto Clemente and Puerto Rico. Brett Farve and Mississippi. The list goes on with athletes who are associated with were they grew up.

Born in LA. Dad owned car wash in Compton.

We all associate him with LA-that’s why folks knew he was going to leave Toronto.

That may be, but he moved to Moreno Valley at a very young age. Like before he even started school young. If you recall whenever it was brought up about him going to LA it was going home to Southern California, not going home to Los Angeles. An old employee of mine was friends with him at SDSU and I’ve met him a few times. He’s very proud of being from Moreno Valley, and has never tried to distance himself from that.

In Texas, Nolan Ryan never won a ring (he won one in California). But he’s the most respected sports legend all throughout Texas.
