I just did some closest points in separate CSA's to test. From Perryville, MD go south on I-95 for 2hr and 23 mins and 140 miles to Carters Store, VA. You would be going from Philadelphia MSA to the Richmond, VA MSA in that stretch. That's 4 separate but contiguous MSA's, and 3 major CSA's in a 140 mile stretch max, and that's not even as the crow flies.
The East Coast/ mid Atlantic cooridor is something special. It just really depends on where your starting point is, and what direction you point towards to find another MSA/CSA. Because you could turn right around in another direction, and be in the DC-Balt CSA, and still drive close to two hours while remaining in the CSA. The funny shapes of states in the East also play a role in how things are centered and people commute across.

Charles town, WV to DC proper is actually 63 miles, to locals seems far, but actually not as distant as what can be seen in some other CSA's. Even Charles Town to Baltimore is 75 miles.
