It is like 2% PI vs Seattle’s 0.7-1% or whatever’s, I mean Seattle is 3.5 times SLC in both city and metro area estimating, so 2.5-3x PI%. Not a massive difference. But parts of South SL areas and towns near it are like 5-10% PI, as per some schools I looked up which are up to 15% Pacific Islander, which is a lot for a mountain state or anywhere in America.

Also San Fran does indeed have some Samoans, but few other PIs, mostly in Hunters Point and Potrero Hill; the first being a bad area which ya don’t wanna go to (been near it, Bayview area on Keith St) and the second I never been but will someday, it is OJ Simpson’s home area if that interests anyone. Looks secluded and away from tourists which is kinda good. There’s a Samoan restaurant in Daly City and one in Hayward which is also Tongan and I heard it’s super good.

Yes the one in Hayward is pretty good too--I prefer the Samoan restaurant in Daly City tho. There's one in Newark but Ive never been. If you want to buy food, Mangal's market in San Leandro and Prasad's in Hayward are actual Islander markets---otherwise I find most of the things I need at Ranch 99 LOL

As an Islander( Tongan), I can say that in my experience, we congregate in large degree by church denomination--that's where you'll find us the easiest.

As far as flights to the region, LAX and SFO are the only airports on the mainland that have nonstop flights to the South Pacific Islands-to Samoa, Fiji and Tahiti, apart from New Zealand and Australia. I know, prior to the pandemic, I was flying down there a 3-4 times per year. LOL.

Wow hella interesting an islander comes to post here, thanks for the feedback! Yes I am not islander but an actually Asian/white but I was hanging with a girl Samoan/black but even before I had some mild interest in the islands and its culture. I think for some reason back in HS (I’m 27) Samoans were considered popular even though rare and for some reason Samoans became well known, maybe because of the cookie, The Rock and the NFL.

Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders are not the only long-term inhabitants of the area. Plenty of people in Hawai'i, Guam, Saipan, etc. would identify as Asian, Some Other Race or One or More Races, and a lot of my friends and family originally from Hawai'i are of Japanese, Filipino or Portuguese descent and wouldn't be reflected here. And those people still bring the Pacific Island culture. So I don't think this is the best metric.

This isn't the only data to determine this, and obviously there are other places in the Pacific aside from Hawai'i, but here's some data of where residents in Hawai'i have been moving to:

Destinations for metro Honolulu residents (2014-2018):
2,450 Las Vegas-Henderson-Paradise, NV Metro Area
2,311 Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VA-MD-WV Metro Area
2,281 Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, CA Metro Area
2,245 San Diego-Carlsbad, CA Metro Area
1,799 Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, WA Metro Area

Destinations for Maui residents (2014-2018):
784 Las Vegas-Henderson-Paradise, NV Metro Area
374 Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, WA Metro Area
268 Bend-Redmond, OR Metro Area
252 Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metro Area
223 San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward, CA Metro Area

As a former Hawai'i resident, I can attest to Las Vegas having the most local Hawai'i culture as it is often called "the 9th Island of Hawai'i."

I can attest to Las Vegas having something called CASINOS.

Btw, I have been going to Vegas for decades and I have never ever heard it called “the 9th isle of Hawaii”.

It most certainly is. You see it a lot more at the downtown casinos. I have a shirt that says it I bought at The California Hotel and Casino (The Cal). There’s even an ABC Store on Fremont St which is the only one on the mainland.

It's a common thing to hear in Hawai'i which is my hometown.

If you're just an occasional tourist I'm not surprised you haven't been exposed to the massive number of Hawai'i transplants and the businesses that cater to them. Vegas is far and away the #1 destination for Hawai'i (and Guam) residents and anyone with even an ounce of knowledge on the subject knows this.

There are a lot of people from FSM in SW Missouri, of all places. Springdale, Arkansas is about 10% Marshallese.
