Hello, I'm looking for East Coast cities that have IT jobs (I'm trying to get into the industry) and decent public transportation. I've spent my life in Louisiana and Texas where cities have trash transit systems. New Orleans seems to be a city that is easy to get around without a vehicle and has great transit. Houston? It's the second Detroit. Built to scale around the automobile. Can't stand that city at all, it gets worse when you get into the far suburbs.

I could care less about insignificant factors like diversity or the political climate of a city as I ignore all the noise. But IT jobs (entry level would be nice) and decent transit systems are what I'm looking for. Also, the affordability of a place. I still live with my parent and don't pay anything aside from credit card bills and helping with medicine if there isn't enough for.the rest of the month. I'm used to $800-$1200 rent as I live in a lower cost of living area, so that is what affordable is to me in my area. Thank you for your contributions!

Yep, Washington DC/Northern Virginia would be a good fit.

Thank you, I will look into Philadelphia. I thought about Pittsburgh, but it's more inland and a bit smaller.

Philadelphia and the DC suburbs are top picks.

NyC and Boston are out of the question.

Baltimore fancies itself an IT hub but the transit lacks and the validity of that claim is debatable.

Nova might not offer affordable housing unless you have roommates FYI.

Another vote for Philly, esp'ly if you have or want to acquire pharma experience. Transit is good most places, excellent in others - and given the work-at-home mandates that'll be in effect for the foreseeable future, location may not be that much of an issue. That said, if you do work in Center City (Philly-speak for downtown), most commutes are pretty straightforward, using regional rail or subway. Indeed, if you work at Comcast (and maybe a few other companies) you can get off the train and zig-zag through concourses that'll take you to your building - kind of nice when it's snowing, raining. PM me if you want more info/opinions.
