So far I have found 4 census tracts in California that are at least 20% Black and have a median Black family income that is $150,000 or greater.
Los Angeles Census Tract 7030.02
77% Black, $158,646 Median Black Family Income Los Angeles Census Tract 7030.01
21% Black, $152,667 Median Black Family Income
^This is Ladera Heights and immediate area around Fox Hills Mall, east of the 405.
Oakland Census Tract 4099
48% Black, $193,750 Median Black Family Income Oakland Census Tract 4081
23% Black, $172,976 Median Black Family Income
Elmsford(has a substantial black middle class that makes up about 27% of the village and is the most diverse of the villages. For the NBA followers, Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz is from there): https://www.google.com/maps/@41.0544...2!9m2!1b1!2i37
As for a neighborhood/area, this is the previously mentioned Parkway Homes/Parkway Gardens area near the North White Plains station(a long time predominantly black, middle class area of the town): https://www.google.com/maps/@41.0579...2!9m2!1b1!2i37 (Parkway Homes section)

Actually, Milton is more like Montclair than Cambridge. The Median Household income for black people in Cambridge is only 41,000. Which makes sense because many of them live in the projects. Housing is much more expensive in Cambridge than in Montclair.
The median black household income in Milton was $94,900 in 2016. By now it is surely well over $100,000. extremely similar.
Also looks-wise Montlair and Milton are similar. One slight difference: Milton prefers a more rustic uncurbed sidewalk-median as does much of upscale Massachusetts. Montclair prefers the more manicured streetscape upscale NE NJ prefers. Streets are straighter in New Jersey which give you a more unbroken sightline of the beautiful homes (this also works to NJ's disadvantage in places like Irvington and Newark)
I have nothing to add since I'm only familiar with other NJ towns but I'm happy to read an engaging thread about positive aspects of a New Jersey town. Thanks for starting it and contributing to it. It's interesting to see similarities between other areas but also interesting to know that towns like this are a bit unique. Most people (who haven't been here) have a negative perception of our state but with almost 600 municipalities crammed into the third smallest state in the nation, there's a lot to learn about and a lot to love.
These photos of Milton definitely resemble Montclair.
Good to see a positive thread about a NJ town with a large black population.
Most of the more influential black politicians/business people in Eastern MA in Milton (Deval Patrick, Greg Shell also of Bain Capital), Hyde Park (Ayanna Presley, State Rep. Russell Holmes), Cambridge (Henry Gates) or Brookline/Newton(former gubernatorial candidate and Mayor of Newton-Setti Warren, the Cohee family- owners of OneUnited Bank).
Milton used to have 23% black schools ~2010 as people from Hyde Park Mattapan and Dorchester were using their family’s addresses in Milton to access better or (closer public schools) Milton explicitly became much more strict in attendance zones and street policing in general. In my many visits to Maplewood NJ I hear similar issues in that town. That it’s progressive-but only to a very clear and defined point. Idk about Montclair though.

Montclair is a better version of Milton IMO.
Good to know. There are definitely a lot of folks using family member's address to get into other school districts.
Newark's suburbs (Montclair, South Orange, West Orange, Union, Maplewood etc.) are the best areas for blacks in NJ (IMO) but unfortunately places like Montclair, Maplewood, and South Orange have seen declines in the black population. IDK if this trend will hold up as the black population is increasing in other Newark suburbs like Union, Hillside, etc.
What's interesting is at one point South Orange's blacks had a higher median income than whites but that has changed. https://villagegreennj.com/community...ter-wealthier/
I assume trends are similar in Montclair as I know that lower/middle income blacks are moving out of Montclair.
Another great thing about Montclair is it has multiple train stations, which is rare for a NJ town.
Chevy Chase is one of the richest suburbs in Maryland. However, it is 92% white and only 1% black.
The demographic makeup in the DC suburbs change dramatically from one area to another
You're right.
