Total of 4 for me. I joined about 13 years ago when I was living in the Chicago MSA. Have since lived in DC, Jacksonville and now Miami.
I never really utilized CD in any way/shape/form for any of the relocations, they were all driven by practicality and need, but my next move which is planned for next year has been somewhat shaped by conversations and discussion on CD.
I do love to use CD for help when making travel plans though!
3 in 12.5 years. DFW, a brief stint in Morgan County, Colorado, and Denver (Aurora) for the last 9.5 years. Came back to Colorado due to an unexpected job opportunity that landed in my lap.

I've never understood how people could ask complete strangers where they should move.
Two, Santa Monica, Ca and now the Provence region in the South of France. Joined in 2014. I’ve been living in France as an expat for a year last month.
2, sort of. I joined in 2016. In 2017 my wife and I move to the Boston/Cape Cod area to help care for my mother-in-law who's battling Parkinson's Disease and Dementia. We were there July 2017 - January 2019. Since we knew it was a temporary situation, we kept our home in the Charlotte area.
I've been ranking metro areas, small towns, and retirement area since 1985 and traveled all over the nation from 1988-2010 researching areas I mentioned. I joined C-D to scratch my geography/demographic itch. It's a VERY niche' interest set that almost no one has among my family and friends, lol. I've never used C-D as a resource to decide where to move. To address what one poster said, I think many who come to C-D come not to have strangers decide where they will live next. They come to use (in my experience of C-Ders over the years PMing me) C-D as ONE source of MULTIPLE sources to help make a decision on where their next move will be. There's value in getting input from those who live in a area you are considering or somewhere a person has visited and you haven't. Even if your experience or take on the area isn't the same, there's still value in other's different experiences. Good thread!

Really?
It makes total sense to me. After one does all the internet research possible, its nice to have anecdotal opinions to layer on top of it. Most people have only explored a small fraction of the US, so after stating what their list of "wants" is, others who have lived in different places the OP hasn't can confirm or deny if the place they understand well matches that list.
Then, once you have the list narrowed to a few areas, one can reach out on those forums and ask the locals questions like:
how's the traffic
the climate
the people
the commerce
the restaurants
It's often hard to find those little nuanced nuggets via independent internet research alone. Heck, you can even do a poll comparing your current city to the narrowed down list of cities and solicit opinions from people who are familiar with both. Immensely useful when preparing to move.
