There are big states such as California, Texas and Florida which counts large populations and areas but there are 13 separate Northeastern States plus DC. The 13 Northeastern States and DC is actually more connected to each other than California and Texas metropolitan areas does. There is a virtually continuous developed corridor which runs from Portland to Virginia Beach with Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Washington as the centers of the Northeast. Why we don't recognize it as one state like California and Texas? I think the Northeastern Corridor's quality of life would be better than having the corridor in 13 separate states. The states I'm proposing to merge are ME, NH, VT, MA, RI, CT, NY, NJ, DE, PA, WV, MD, DC and VA.

VA? Goodness...Virginia is not northern..... I doubt a former Confederate state would merge into one state with a bunch of other northern states.

Virginia is actually more connected to the other Northeastern States than Virginia is to the Southeastern States. This has nothing to do with culture and history. In California, San Francisco Bay Area has a different culture and history than Los Angeles and San Diego. So do you think San Francisco Bay Area should not be in the same state as Los Angeles and San Diego just because of that? No. In Texas, Dallas-Fort Worth is different from Houston, San Antonio, Brownsville and El Paso yet all of them are in the same state. The same thing would happen if Virginia is in the same state as Delaware, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Maine.

Ok, no, In Massachusetts people have a Cruller for breakfast, In Virginia, they don't know what that is
In Virginia, they eat Grits, you will be hard pressed to find a New Englander who is sure what a Grit is
Try asking for the nearest Bubbler in Richmond, or say Y,all in Concord, see the look on their face
They are culturally distinct and should not be the same state
Don't even start on Politics

No.

However, maybe all six New England states could merge into a single state called "New England."

No, that would be stupid. That would be a state with like 70 million people in it. That's twice the population of California. Why would we do that?
