I haven’t been to to many and the ones I have are all in CO. Although it’s highly unaffordable, Aspen is actually a really cool experience (Especially in the Fall). I love Vail’s faux European architecture. Telluride is the most beautiful I’ve seen by far. I can’t get over how gorgeous it is. I haven’t been to Park City but it looks really nice as well

Lake Placid is probably the best I've seen in terms of winter recreation amenities. One combination that can be hard to land in a ski resort area is a really good outdoor ice skating venue. The ones I've found are often small rinks. Lake Placid has and outdoor Olympic speed skating oval that's open for public skating and when Mirror Lake freezes over. I enjoyed Whiteface and Lake Placid, the best mountain town in the East. Stowe is fun too and has more charm, but Lake Placid has more to do.
I probably left a couple locales off the list (oh well I can't edit the poll).
Isn't Lake Placid's ski area pretty small? I was mainly aiming for towns that had large ski resorts/areas close by, e.g. ski resorts with over 1,000 acres.

For comparison, Whiteface has about the same vertical drop as Aspen, but many fewer skiable acres. High elevation areas in the west usually have huge skiable acreage numbers because of the expansive above treeline areas, whereas most of the acreage back east is confined to forested trails and glades.
Anyway, Lake Placid is one of my favorite ski towns. I prefer real towns that have ski areas, like Placid, Telluride, Stowe, Taos, etc. as opposed to resort "towns" full of condos and overpriced boutiques.
