Well I posted the actual racial makeup of Masasschusetts relative to the national median directly from the Census earlier (CT and RI are similar). So I will leave it at that.

There's a casino gambling destination that's been on a gradual decline, ok. I suppose a couple of the shopping malls in the far north part of the state are better than average (but pale in comparison to what I can get across the state line).

Beyond that, what else is there besides generic suburban stuff?

Interesting exercise. Ok...I'll also add a rating out of 10 for how willing I would be to live there:

Alabama - Birmingham (6)
Alaska - Anchorage (3)
Arizona - Phoenix (7)
Arkansas - Fayetteville (5.5)
California - San Francisco (10) but Los Angeles is very close behind (9.5)
Colorado - Denver (8)
Connecticut - NYC suburb somewhere between Greenwich and Bridgeport. I'll say Westport (7) but I'm not 100%
Delaware - Wilmington (7)
Florida - Miami Beach (9) but honestly parts of Tampa, Orlando and Jax score very high.
Georgia - Atlanta (8.5)
Hawaii - Honolulu (9)
Idaho - Boise (7)
Illinois - Chicago (9)
Indiana - This is a tough call. I'll lean towards NWI like maybe Hammond (7) but I'd also consider Indy (6.5) or the Louisville metro eg New Albany (6.5)
Iowa - Des Moines (5)
Kansas - Kansas City (6.5) if I could live on the MO side this would bump up a bit
Kentucky - Louisville (7.5)
Louisiana - New Orleans (8.5)
Maine - Portland (6)
Maryland - Baltimore (8)
Massachusetts - Boston (8.5)
Michigan - Detroit (7.5)
Minnesota - Minneapolis (8)
Mississippi - Biloxi (5)
Missouri - St Louis (7.5)
Montana - Billings (3)
Nebraska - Omaha (7)
Nevada - Las Vegas (8.5)
New Hampshire - I honestly have no clue. This is probably a tossup. Would want to check out the Boston exurbs from Nashua to Manchester (maybe a 6?) or would consider Hanover (6?) where I visited once to check out Dartmouth
New Jersey - Jersey City (8)
New Mexico - Albuquerque (6) but I'd consider Santa Fe (5.5) as well
New York - NYC (10)
North Carolina - Ahhh another tossup. I'll lean towards Raleigh (7.5) but Charlotte (7.5) easily could win this too
North Dakota - Fargo (3)
Ohio - Cleveland (7.5) but Columbus (7.5) and Cincy (7.5) are right there too.
Oklahoma - OKC (6) I think but I've never been to the state so Tulsa (5.5) could win out if I visit
Oregon - Portland (8.5)
Pennsylvania - Philadelphia (8.5) but Pittsburgh (8) deserves honorable mention
Rhode Island - Providence (7.5)
South Carolina - Charleston (8) but honorable mention to Greenville (7)
South Dakota - Sioux Falls (4.5)
Tennessee - Nashville (8)
Texas - I have no idea about this one. I think I'd say Houston (8.5) and Austin (8.5) tie, with Dallas (8) right behind.
Utah - Salt Lake City (7)
Vermont - Burlington (6)
Virginia - Arlington (8.5)
Washington - Seattle (8.5)
West Virginia - Charleston (5)
Wisconsin - Milwaukee (8)
Wyoming - Cheyenne (3)

Hmm I think the results here are going to be questionable. because few people know enough about all these places to choose from experience. they will usually end up choosing either the biggest city or the most hyped city, which seems to go with the results so far. I guess it makes some sense in that the most people live there. but I think the people mostly live there for their jobs , not necessarily as the best place to be.

I did my research on most, so that's how I got Cobb County for Georgia, rather than just Atlanta. And Enterprise/Spring Valley for Nevada, rather than just Las Vegas.

Even then, I had a couple unpopular choices. I specifically chose Eastern Contra Costa for California. For New Mexico and Hawaii, I chose Los Alamos and Laie, respectively, both of which are isolated.

Yea it seems a good bit are that, but I'm surprised about Alabama, I was expecting all Huntsvilles. But nah it's actually multiple cities being chosen at relatively equal rates, which is pretty cool IMO.

Love this ranking idea! Wish I had done that with mine too. haha

Good snapshot overall of desirable places based on opinions.

There are a lot of city enthusiasts here. I also think that you're correct in assuming that at least some will name the largest city or most hyped area.
