I'm moving to either Jackson, TN or a small Indiana town near Louisville (cause lower taxes). Which one should I move to? Here is what I want:
  • Close to at least one big lake
  • As many mild, sunny days as possible (I would say mild is around the 50s-70s)
  • As little traffic as possible
  • Proximity to fun things to do (e.g. live music, sports, water parks, fairs)

I would choose Indiana, specifically New Albany. It's a nice historic town with plenty of things to do in its own right and it's minutes to Downtown Louisville.

I was looking at places closer to the Hoosier National Forest for Indiana but I appreciate your input.

I'd go with Southern Indiana. My sister just moved to a little town outside of Jackson from Florida, and already regrets it. Although it's not tiny, Jackson doesn't have much going on, crime is an issue and she has to drive 75 miles to suburban Memphis way too often.

Corydon and Georgetown area are more rural, within 30 minutes to Louisville and 30 minutes to the Hoosier National Forest. Patoka Reservoir is also a 45 minute drive.

Jackson TN does not have the best reputation here in TN, most folks do not recommend it as a place people WANT to move to. The crime and the sweltering summer heat/humidity are the two biggest reasons.
Just curious but what made you pick Jackson as one of your choices? Most people prefer Cookeville, or if they like Memphis, one of the nearby MS cities.

Yeah, Memphis is an amazing city- and the suburbs around it (Collierville, Germantown and even Hernando, Olive Branch, Bartlett, Arlington, Lakeland) are all quite nice. Jackson is fine and isn't so bad with crime (albeit, take this with a grain of salt as I'm from Memphis and lived in NOLA).

Second this. Id you like historic urban go New Albany.

If you want more rural./suburbs, look at Floyds Knobs and Georgetown IN....these areas are only 15 mins to al the amenities of downtown New Albany. Beautiful new homes there and 35 mins to Patoka Lake. You will LOVE it there. Shhhhh! These areas are hidden gems so do not tell anyone lol.
