Which places in the USA are the least reliant on national or global supply chains?

What cities or areas have the ability to sustain themselves with local food, water, etc?

Definitely the Appalachians and Ozarks/Ouachitas, maybe Alaska. Plenty of wildlife, plants, and water. Would also say the Rockies if it didn't constantly run out of water.

Pacific Northwest and Seattle. Over 90% of electricity comes from hydroelectric power in Western Washington. Lots of surrounding fertile farmland with a long growing season. Local water, cows, dairy, produce and fruits. Easy access to marine life also.

Sounds very similar to much of Upstate NY minus the length of the growing season.

With scandalous, virtue signaling politicians and an ignorant, elitist population, I cant see the PNW sustaining itself, despite all its wonderful resources. That would require unity and community.

Plus in any sort of chaos scenario you’d have millions of clueless city dwellers fleeing Seattle/Portland and trying to invade that lovely farmland. No thanks.

No different than Maine or New Hampshire really.

Whatever, save your political spiel for somewhere else. All my produce and groceries come locally. There are tons of farmers markets in Seattle throughout the neighborhoods and many are year round and swarming with people. More than anything I’ve ever seen on the East Coast. This is a city that prides itself on local foods, restaurants and businesses. Far less reliance on national retail chains here.

So sick of those who don’t have a clue, never even been to the city they are spewing nonsense about and just project their political ideologies to every single discussion.
