Oops I meant to post this in the NJ forum, but there is not button for me to delete this thread. Anyways, it's okay.

I know that NJ has "air raid" sirens, which go off for various reasons and for storms too, but whenever a bad rain storm was happening, I would hear this alarm sound that was not an air raid siren. What is the name of this type of siren:

You have to turn the volume up to hear it.

Didn't know Jersey had rain alarms. At least where I come from, a siren meant one of two things:
1. A test (usually on the first monday of every month)
2. You're gonna die.

The emergency warning system? Generally for tornado warnings, and tested once a week, here it's at noon on Saturday. Or do you have something in addition to that?

Here in Texas it's called an emergency warning system. It's typically for tornado warnings and not just a generalized one, more like TAKE SHELTER IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE THERE IS A TORNADO IN YOUR IMMEDIATE VICINITY.

I have only heard the actual alarm go off twice in about 25 years but the system is tested once a month on a Tuesday at noon.

Yeah, the alarm you hear in the video is the same sound you hear from my part of NJ, so I guess NJ has them all over. This sound is specifically for storms, but we also have an air raid siren for more general stuff. I am not sure if it is even called an emergency warning system.

Never heard this alarm or the air raid siren in the Bay Area except San Francisco's tsunami alarm, which I believe is tested on Tuesdays.

Is it possible the siren is near a chemical plant or something similar that might have an alarm system for chemical spills or other similar events?

In the Midwest they were considered and called Tornado Sirens but some places have a loud booming voice that sounds like God telling you to take cover. It freaked me out the first time I heard it.

The alarms I hear are not near a chemical plant at all. The alarms I hear are located on top of the rec center in the park of my town.
