I have no doubt a large part of Boston Carnaval is out of state folks. I'd imagine espeically Haitians in other states would want to travel to Boston Carnaval.
DC is defintely closer for Philly and NJ folks. And I feel like BK/Queens to DC is a easier drive. Belt parkway to 95. I drive from DC to NYC and NJ often so maybe it's just easier for me personally since I'm used to the drive lol.
Haitians aren't that deep in the Boston parade because it's half out-of-state folks and Haitians also have their own paradelike the Trinis, Dominican and Puerto Ricans. Maybe because they have Haitian Flag day so many of them skip Carnival.
Bajans Trinis Grenadians and Jamaicans are overrepresented at Carvinval. With smaller #'s of Kittians, Nevisians, Virgin Islanders, Antiguans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, and Hondurans. Haitians are a presence, for sure, but they're definitely underrepresented in Boston Carnival relative to their share of the population. You can see that in the vids
Fun fact: New York's first Caribbean Carnaval was in Harlem in the 30s which makes sense because Harlem in the early 1900s was actually 10-20% West Indian, along with African Americans who migrated from the South.

That's surprising considering how deep Haitians are in Boston in general. Haitians run Brooklyn now and a super deep at Labor Day Parade.
Flag day is definitely a huge deal in Haiti/Haitian diaspora so I can see that.
With all this said, carnival in the Caribbean is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> anything in North America/Europe
Idk... they're deep in Boston, but they're a plurality not a majority so if they opt to wait for another day-its noticeable and I guess Flag Day and I think they used to have a Haitian Unity Day Parde as well. I know Dominicans and Ricans have their own things and their Latino, so you expect them to not show up but they're At Carnival and their own things. For a lot of the smaller non-Hispanic Islanders- this is their time to Shine.

Definitely a different vibe than NYC/NJ
Labor Day is definitely a bigger event than any individual parade/celebration for the nonhispanic Caribbean.
You don't always see many Latinos at Labor Day Parade but you will definitely see Panamanians, Hondurans, and other Spanish Caribbean folks and the "big" islands (Jamaica, Trinidad, Haiti) show out.
Puerto Rican Parade in NYC is super fun, at least it was when I last went
Where are the crazy hype videos of these carnivals? They seem pretty tame compared to what I have experienced in DC.
I don't know where you'd find hype videos- I see them on Twitter. People be dancing, people be drinking and smoking. I know after a few whines, I was dead off the Remy VS... Its mostly Jouvert that's ore lit but again, I don't go because it legit dangerous at Jouvert at least when they start before sanctioned. They're out there deep at 2, 3, 4 am illegal. on Talbot Ave.

Yea Carnival is huge; Haitian Flag day is minor in comparison so it doesn't explain it all. It only blocks off one side of Blue Hill Ave for a few blocks where as Carnival block off several streets and both side of Blue Hill Ave.
I've been to the Dominican Day thing in Boston once just by happenstance, never the Puerto Rican Day one, which is older and looks better.
These ethnic Carnivals for the Caribbean are a big deal in New England. Providence has a great Cape Verdean Festival. and Hartfords Carnival is the oldest in New England, established in 1962. It also has a great Puerto Rican Day Parade Ive gone to.

So do they have water cannons, mud trucks, and powder in the Boston Carnival? DC's carnival was absolutely insane. I know that from personal experience and the videos match my experience. The videos you are posting are very tame compared to DC. Boston seems more like our DC Caribbean Wine Festival which also gets hype, but is nothing like DC carnival used to be.
As much as I like West Indian culture and how fun it can be, it has nothing on the energy at a Gogo. I was at this Georgia Avenue Day at Howard back in High School below and the energy around GoGo is head and shoulders above every form of music Black people listen to and it's not close. DC is a whole party!
