I am someone who is fascinated by all kinds of statistics on places, so I will probably start posting top ten lists in all sorts of categories (via research on the census bureau website). First off, I'm putting up the whitest (non-hispanic) metropolitan areas in the US and the least white. Only metropolitan areas with a population of over 1,000,000 are included. This is metropolitan statistical area, NOT city. Feel free to comment on the list and speculate on where your MSA would be. Btw, this is not meant to be offensive in any way.

Pittsburgh is no surprise. Our city is reasonably diverse---I happen to live in a neighborhood that is roughly 45% white, non-Hispanic; roughly 45% black, non-Hispanic; and then the remaining 10% is either mixed-race; Asian; or Hispanic. Once you get a half-hour outside the city limits it's nothing but a sea of white people as far as the eye can see, though.

Having been to SJ, Miami, and San Antonio and having Houston roots, I really question them outranking Houston. SJ has a large Asian influence but so does Houston. San Antonio and Miami when you really look at them are actually more concentrated in Hispanic residents whereas Houston has middle eastern, Latino, black white, and Asian. Anyone who goes to SA and Miami, immediately see the strong Latin ties with little enclaves for other ethnic/racial groups.
SJ seemed to have Indian as its second largest ethnic/racial group when I visited. According to the most recent ACS, the racial composition of San Jose was:
White: 39.91%, including Latino
Asian: 35.91%
Other race: 14.82%
Two or more races: 5.35%
Black or African American: 3.00% (!!)
Native American: 0.56%
Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander: 0.46%
Houston TX
White: 57.02%, including Latino
Black or African American: 22.59%
Other race: 11.05%
Asian: 6.77%
Two or more races: 2.20%
Native American: 0.32%
Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander: 0.05%
STL outside of the city and inner suburbs both in St Louis county and the Metro East is overwhelmingly white, same thing in the Milwaukee area but there is a more bigger hispanic population than in STL

St. Louis and Milwaukee rank high in terms of racial segregation. In fact, by some measures, Milwaukee is the most segregated metro area in the country.
Here is the % of non-hispanic white population for each of the metropolitan areas in the top 10.

A couple surprises on the "most white" list I'd say.
OP, these "metropolitan area" statistics are not particularly useful. The suburbs of just about any large city are predominantly white (well, Honolulu and some places in CA are special cases, as the whites are probably the minority there). It WOULD be useful to see a list of the large CITIES with a large white population, if you are into that sort of statistics.

San Jose still wins because even counting Hispanics who are White, SJ still has no majority and is nearly 20% lower than Houston. SJ clearly has the most unique racial composition of any large metro on the US mainland.
