I've heard of a massive growth of the last two. Especially Venezuelans and Salvadorans and me being Nigerian I meet Nigerian immigrants all the time to the point where I can't comment on the actual data, because even during the Oil Crash years, and earlier I was meeting a disproportionate amount of Nigerians.
But I haven't met a new Vietnamese immigrant in years. I don't even know if I know one that has migrated post 2010. Where in Houston are you running into these people? Maybe it's because of bias, but I just assume most of the Viets I see in SW Houston are from the 90s, or earlier. Especially because I never see their kids. (Little Saigon seems to have a Viet population that's strictly 30+ for some reason).

Here in Sammamish, WA, when we moved here in 1993 the population was about 25,000. Currently we have 67,455 people, 33% Asian and foreign born is 30%. Most of those are from India, people working at Microsoft and Amazon. It's 60% White, and other races are not a significant percentage.

Immigrants could be new to the Houston area even if they have been in the United States for many years. Many immigrants who initially settled in California, for example, have moved on to other states that have a lower cost of living and a friendlier environment for entrepreneurs. Many foreign born people from a variety of countries here in Atlanta likewise started out somewhere else in the US.

Not sure where that's located in Houston but I will say that a lot of Asians live in Sugarland and similar burbs because of the schools. I don't think a lot of Chinese kids live in Chinatown because the schools aren't optimal. Just my guess.

Fair enough. Looking at the number of new international immigrants in Greater Houston from 2010-2019, these were the largest groups. Even though the number of Vietnamese wasnt towards the top, it still was the largest increase of foreign born Vietnamese in the US by metro area.

For most of the 2010's it was Nigerian, Indian, Vietnamese, Filipino and Pakistani's in that order. The area also has a high number of Iran's, but its hard to tell when the started immigrating here.
Recently it's switched to Ghanaian, Cameroonian, Chinese/Taiwanese, Kenyan, Nigerian and Indian/Nepalese in that order.
Mexicans have been and still are the largest group of course. Not seeing a lot of central American's, but it's slowly increasing.
Seeing a large influx of Puerto Ricans, but the majority seem to have been in the U.S for awhile and just moved here from some other regions.
Most of the Vietnamese that I've meet appear to have been in the country for at least five + years.
Small increases that are surprising would be Syrian, Egyptian, Ugandan.
