Oh yea duh. I guess you picked 5,000 miles so LA and SF would rise to the top since they are so isolated?

They are still gateways - but Dallas, Houston, Seattle, etc. have also become gateways.

Well, I was really looking at ultra long haul flights(14+hrs) but decided to cut it back to 5,000+ miles to get more routes.

American carriers dont fly as many ultra long haul flights as you might think:

.
They were only selecting routes of 5000 miles or more.

Thanks for posting this list of longest flights, from all of the bigger US cities. It's interesting NYC(JFK) to Singapore looks like the longest such flight, at 9,534 miles. For whatever reason, I thought a nonstop middle flight to some Middle East city would be the longest international flight from the US(i.e. to Tel Aviv, Dubai, etc), but what do I know?

In general many immigrants these days are sponsors of recent Americans. I think it's called secondary migration. So the brothers sisters,
Parents, adult children. .. it's common to bring your family. It's an expensive and a long process. These immigrants will likely live near the family until they are established.

Other immigrants without these ties often choose to live near established ethnic enclaves. Maybe 30 years plus there were a handful of places a person might go. For example a Japanese immigrant or Korean, or Somalian or Iranian. Being near foods or language help. These days. New enclaves have grown in other cities. And new immigrants can choose a different city that wasn't available decades ago.

A lot of immigrants still start out in NYC, LA, San Fran, Miami. But like many native-born Americans, they’ll move to different places, both to the ‘burbs and other regions, once they’ve gotten settled and saved some money. Of course some stay in these cities, often because their compatriots have built the social infrastructure they need. But eventually moving on is no different than what immigrants here have done for a hundred years.

Let's look at some Immigration Yearbook data for lawful permanent residents for some of those cities.

1999 by MSA:
- NY: 12.5% of total
- LA: 8.5%
- SF: 1.8%
- Mia: 4.7%
- Sea: 1.1%
- Hou: 2.3%

2009 by Core Based Statistical Area (sounds like it's the same as MSA):
- NY: 16.8%
- LA: 8.6%
- SF: 2.9%
- Mia: 7.4%
- Sea: 1.8%
- Hou: 2.3%

2019 by Core Based Statistical Area:
- NY: 15.0%
- LA: 7.4%
- SF: 3.2%
- Mia: 7.1%
- Sea: 1.9%
- Hou: 3.9%

2020 by Core Based Statistical Area:
- NY: 14.1%
- LA: 7.3%
- SF: 3.9%
- Mia: 5.6%
- Sea: 2.5%
- Hou: 3.8%

That's not enough to really draw conclusions. Each year is a snapshot. And it's just one category.

Kudos to Houston btw.

I'd be interested to see which major cities receive the most immigrants from East Asia or the Middle East. It is well known that African immigrants are pretty spread out throughout the US thanks to refugee programs, and Latin Americans flock to Florida, NY, and California
