I can't think of notorious places like that nowadays, unlike for example in Asia or Europe, where red light districts are still alive and fairly well known.

I think the difference is that public acceptance of prostitution is much bigger in other countries. Not to say it's considered a respectable job there, but it's more tolerated and I'd say people are less repulsed by it for sure. In the U.S. I doubt you could run fine dining restaurants and upscale galleries etc. on a street with hookers plying their trade right in the open. I've seen that in Europe.

In Atlanta, it was Stewart Avenue... it was so notorious they changed the name of the street to Metropolitan Pkwy. https://editions.covecollective.org/...stewart-avenue Now, it's going through gentrification with many crackhouses being renovated into homes that are worth 10x - 20x before the renovation.

Yeah it was a guy.. but I'm not taking about (technically) West Hollywood, you gotta read my original post, I clarified that. I'm talking about the part of Sunset just east of West Hollywood.. near the Ralph's../peace

Check out Amsterdam for a contrast with US cities.

"strolls" vs "red light districts" are a bit different.

Figueroa Street, LA, CA.
Bissonett, Houston, TX
Aurora, Seattle, WA

comes to mind... The US strolls are controlled by pimps and human trafficking. "official" Red light districts in other countries are regulated. I'm for decriminalization/legalization but street prostitution is really not something I would support.

I know San Francisco's North Beach area has already been mentioned , but I do believe the so called " Barbary Coast " which overlapped into Chinatown and Jackson square has not , which is why I may as well mention it .

Boston's Combat Zone as a district died many years ago, dispersed to suburbs and Providence. Two small clubs and a couple of adult-media shops does not constitute a district.
