Hmmm...this is a tough one since most cities are heavily-inhabited by Democrats who are left on social issues.

Maybe:

Mobile, AL
Mesa, AZ
Northwest Arkansas
Bakersfield, CA
Merced, CA
Modesto, CA
Stockton, CA
Colorado Springs, CO
Jacksonville, FL
Pensacola, FL
Tallahassee, FL
Augusta, GA
Columbus, GA
Coeur d'Alene, ID
Twin Falls, ID
Pocatello, ID
Evansville, IN
Dubuque, IA
Leavenworth, KS
Owensboro, KY
Paducah, KY
Lafayette, LA
Lake Charles, LA
Shreveport, LA
Cape Girardeau, MO
Joplin, MO
Springfield, MO
St. Joseph, MO
Fayetteville, NC
Jacksonville, NC
Bismarck, ND
Minot, ND
Ashtabula, OH
Findlay, OH
Lima, OH
Steubenville, OH
Youngstown, OH
Warren, OH
Oklahoma City, OK
Tulsa, OK
Altoona, PA
Johnstown, PA
Lancaster, PA
Scranton, PA
Wilkes-Barre, PA
Williamsport, PA
Anderson, SC
Spartanburg, SC
Pierre, SD
Rapid City, SD
Antioch, TN
Bristol, TN
Chattanooga, TN
Clarksville, TN
Franklin, TN
Germantown, TN
Kingsport, TN
Murfreesboro, TN
Abilene, TX
Amarillo, TX
Beaumont, TX
Bryan, TX
College Station, TX
Harlingen, TX
Killeen, TX
Laredo, TX
Lubbock, TX
McAllen, TX
Midland, TX
Odessa, TX
Port Arthur, TX
Waco, TX
Logan, UT
Ogden, UT
Orem, UT
Provo, UT
St. George, UT
Bristol, VA
Danville, VA
Lynchburg, VA
Roanoke, VA
Virginia Beach, VA
Winchester, VA
Spokane, WA
Yakima, WA
Beckley, WV
Bluefield, WV
Charleston, WV
Elkins, WV
Huntington, WV
Weirton, WV
Wheeling, WV
Casper, WW
Cheyenne, WY

So MOST of these places are smaller cities, and even in many of these cases you would need to look into outer neighborhoods of the city propers and/or suburban areas surrounding these cities to find socially conservative Democrats.

Your best best to find socially conservative Democrats would probably be in interior PA, interior OH, IN, KY, VA, TN, OK, KS, TX, and UT.

What are your priorities for "economically left"? What is your minimum size for "major city" metro? 500k? 2 million? Any concerns with / requirements for weather? Is there a housing budget to rent or buy?

Hialeah is almost 75% Cuban but I don't know how many are "conservative" on what issues. Or how open they are to other ethnicities. Greater Miami metro has a lot lower level of Cubans, close to 20%.

Miami in general has very different social values. You'd have to find a like minded neighborhood and stay in it, ignoring the rest.

If you want to be around Catholics, there are many places in North with a 20-30% plus share. And some spots in Texas like San Antonio and some interior agricultural valley California cities. Lots of places will have modest sized Catholic communities but activity / vitality / degree of conservatism will vary. Cities with large Catholic identifying populations: https://www.voanews.com/a/most-catho...s/2966577.html Look at Pittsburgh and / or Cincinnati.

Are you coming from outside U.S.? Able to visit before initial selection?

These two things are nearly impossible to pair in today's political climate, and as someone raised Catholic myself, I am not confident that the very socially conservative places that you seek are necessarily pro Catholic.

That really makes sense. The street and sidewalks in the gay district of Oklahoma City have gotten attention, but not totally finished. One of the city councilmen is gay.

By economically left, I’m in favour of things like universal healthcare (though with a two-tier system), progressive taxation, and just overall reduction of excessive economic inequality - but stopping short of socialism since I believe people still have the right to private property (and I’m okay with some economic inequality).

For metro size I’d say 2 million. I’d prefer a sunny and ideally moist climate. For housing, I’d prefer a housing market that’s better than my home city of Toronto (average home price of $1M, even in suburbs), but I won’t be too strict on this since political values are the main topic of this thread.

I’m from Canada. Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll get any opportunities to visit the US anytime soon. It’d be possible to visit as a tourist if I do choose on a city (ie. visiting it before confirming I want to move there) but I’m not sure if it’s worth the travel expense.

Sounds like Alberta might be better for you. Canada is known for its left wing nationalism which sounds more like you. There's not a single area in the US that wants universal healthcare while simultaneously wanting a catholic theocratic influenced government. Those are mutually exclusive in the American political spectrum.

Atlanta came to mind due to the heavily Democratic politics and massive faith community, but then I read OP’s update about economic views and being Canadian.

Definitely going to co-sign Alberta. Probably Calgary, as Edmonton tends to trend more socially liberal with the universities.

I'd think Oklahoma City would be your best bet to find your Christian democrats cluster. Maybe Wichita, KS too. Those are "Buckle" of the bible belt cities, and are very democrat and very Christian conservative. Oklahoma City is also one of the most affordable cities for housing in the USA.

I have seen countless posts by people decrying what they believe is the 'emasculation' of Black men, pointing to Atlanta, and decrying about how too many are 'lost' nowadays, when I just see it as people being able to finally stand in their truth. Well, they are almost all Democrats, all are black, all would NEVER vote for a republican, but all also feel very strongly about certain aspects of societal changes they disagree with.

Does anyone else have similar experience with this? I would even say East Oakland, where I am from, might fall into this category, minority and immigrant dominated, very democratic, but not totally onboard with every plank of the liberal political platform.
You're correct, black Americans tend to be more socially conservaitve than other Democratic voters.

OP should look for a place with a large black population and large Christian population so one of the large Southern cities.
