I've always said that L.A. was the most spoiled city in America.
Y'know what I mean by "spoiled city", right?

If you don't, to me, a spoiled city is one that has just about anything any city could ever want, but it's citizens seem to take it all for granted.
It's a city that has waaaaaaaaaay too much.

I think L.A. fits that.
Think about it...
  • It had 3 NFL teams and they all left (what does that tell you). And now they're (allegedly) looking for a fourth.
  • L.A. has it's spoiled rotten celebrities and people who can't stay out of their business.
  • There are several problems in the city, yet it's concidered to be one of the best in the world.

This isn't a slam at any city, but to me, it just looks so spoiled.

What do you think?

Hmm, LA would actually be quite low on my list. Have you been there? It's an ok place, but it's NOT like on TV. It has just as many issues as any other city, and even more with the rising price of housing, gas, immigration issues, natural disasters, housing shortage, pollution, etc.

Where did you see it's concidered to be one of the best cities in the world? I'm on a slew of international urban message boards, and LA is never idolized as one of the best cities in the world. Not saying that in a bad way or anything, but it doesn't have anything on top of dozens of other large cities in the world. The undeveloped mass transit (like almost the entire US) is probably the biggest shame.

I would say maybe Portland or Seattle. I don't really agree with any of the other cities on that list, they all have major issues to deal with, and don't have a whole lot more than any other cities. Except New York obviously, but I wouldn't call anyone who lives there spoiled! They all have to work damn hard to be able to survive in NY. It's not like an easy going fairyland where you coast through life with the world at your fingertips.

When I say "spoiled city", I mean THE WHOLE city.

It's not really just people who get everything, it's the city in general. Los Angeles is one of those cities that get just about everything.
I mean, how many times has L.A. been featured in T.V., Movies, Books, Mags, songs, etc....?
How many sports teams does the city of L.A. have, yet the fans don't seem to be all that interested (except when it comes to the Lakers) ?
How much have you heard of L.A. in your lifetime?

All that had something to do with me saying that it's the most spoiled .... because it seems to get EVERYTHING any city could ever want. Same thing with N.Y., Vegas, Dallas, Miami, and Atlanta. It's also a certain attitude you get when you go to these places.

And I've actually been to L.A., back in 2001.... it was brief, but I've been there.

And Seattle, maybe, but Portland?

LA also has a lot of things cities sure as hell DO NOT want.

To me LA is spoiled by it's climate and geography but instead of taking advantage of it they kind of ruined it, or at least screwed it up. With a climate like LA why the hell are there so many indoor malls (less so now but that is a recent national trend) and not too many walkable areas. It's the best place to walk and be outside yet the development in many places is indoor and geared towards being INSIDE a car. The city has so much potential and it's kind of sad to not see it reach it.

I guess it's spoiled b/c it gets so much exposure, but that has to do with the dominant industry there.

A lot of people in NYC can tell you where some of the nations greatest historical landmarks are, but have never been to them.

One way in which Atlanta has been spoiled was the 1996 Summer Games. I still scratch my head wondering how the hell did we land the Olympics compared to more prominent cities?

My vote goes to Miami. One of the most beautiful locations in the U.S. that is overrun by very unfriendly people. Crime is a problem and instead of keeping up with the city, people focus on a couple of areas (Brickell, South Beach, etc) and neglect the rest. I hope this changes someday, because I LOVE the location, beautiful and the only area of the mainland U.S. with a real tropical climate. If the problems become less in the future, I'll be back there in a heartbeat. With such a great place that the people neglect, I'm going with Miami! (I miss Miami )

When you ask spoiled, do you mean jaded?
I'd say that L.A. is the most jaded but not the most spoiled. Grammys, Oscars, Emmys, MTV and other award shows-"big deal weve got other thing to do" , says a California native./ Football teams ? USC. Oh, professional... well, USC. (just joking Trojans-don't get mad) /Beaches, mountains and deserts all less than an hour away? "Seen it all before" /Major sports teams (with rings) . "Gotta' leave early to beat the traffic." /Vegas only a 45min. flight away? "Just dropped two-grand at Ceasar's last week. Maybe next month", one might overhear. / All of these aspiring actresses from around the country and world? " A new one gets off of the bus or plane every minute.
This isn't spoiled, it's nice - I'd say jaded not spoiled.

I agree that spoiled may not be the best word. When I hear spoiled, I always get the connotation of snobby individuals. But that's not what we're talking about in this case. Right now we're looking at cities that are simply very privledged...we're not even talking about people at all, but rather cities themselves. Places that seem to have it all, to the point where it's almost unnatural.
