What counties are more famous than any cities or towns within them?
Orange County, CA is an obvious one, and I feel like Westchester County, NY is one too.
Not well known nationally, but in Washington, the San Juan Islands/San Juan County is a place people visit and have vacation homes, and the whole area is better known than the towns Friday Harbor, Roche Harbor, etc. specifically.
This reminds me of Ghostbusters, when the main character (I forget his name) admonished the ghosts who were terrorizing Manhattan to cease and desist "on behalf of the City, County, and State of New York."
More famous: Las Vegas (over Nevada), Atlanta (over Georgia)
Obviously both Atlanta and Las Vegas are quite well-known as cities, but Georgia is easily more famous and evocative than Nevada IMO. So Las Vegas would be more famous than the state it resides in.
