In Birmingham, we have a residential area that was one of the earliest and most densely populated in the state, which had most streets as a Terrace followed by a letter of the alphabet. My favorite aunt lived on Terrace Q. I was from the other side of town and as a child I found this quite strange. I do not know the reason, but I have wondered if the boom years that built this area brought frustration for those that might name the streets. Being the oldest side of town, it also had Pikes as major connectors.
On the southside lies much nicer areas that have many Crescents. However, as there are all the designations mentioned previously, including Traces and Gaps, Birmingham seems to have far more than its share of Pkwys. And it is almost never spelled out as of course there is no room.
I have enjoyed this subject, thanks to all.
Streets ending with “trail” seem to be increasing in the Pacific Northwest. I would guess this has to do with wooded areas increasingly becoming more populated.
Do you know any particular ones? I didn't notice those in the Seattle area
Kansas City also has The Paseo.
There are other Trafficways as well: Eastwood, Manchester, North Oak, maybe some others that slip my mind.
Every other east-west numbered street is called a terrace while the others use ‘street’ in the name, at least in some parts of the city.
In NYC:
Lots of "Terrace" streets in Queens
Bowery
Esplanade
Peck Slip and Old Slip
Forgot about "Coenties Slip" as well
