Texas is so big, the distance from Houston to El Paso is the same as El Paso to San Diego. Thats NM, AZ, and CA. Well half of NM's width.

Land area. Seattle's population is more than three times as great as Spokane's.

Denver International Airport has a whopping SIX runways. Five of them are 12,000 feet long, which makes them longer than most airports. The other one is an incredible 16,000 feet long, making it the longest civilian runway in the United States. That's why DEN has such a huge land area.

Maryland is generally considered to be a small state (which it is), but its diagonal width is longer than people think. The driving distance (by the most direct route) from Ocean City in the southeast to Friendsville in the northwest is almost the same as the driving distance between Fort Lauderdale and Jacksonville, Florida.

This next one has me putting one foot outside of the U.S. The geographic size of Chicago (235 square miles) is almost identical to the size of Seoul, South Korea (234 square miles). But Seoul's population is over 3.5 times as great as Chicago's.

The smallest county in the U.S. by population is Loving County, Texas, where a whopping 64 people reside. However, its land area of 667 square miles makes it geographically larger than Houston.

I find that so hard to believe. How far upstream are the counting rivers/deltas? Shouldnt they only count the land that is directly parallel to the ocean?

I hear NC coast was a favorite pirate haven. Even Black Beard like to hide in them shores.
