Is it possible to live in between NYC and Philadelphia and commute to both for work?? (university, income)

Oh for sure in between is fine. Atleast fine in the sense it will be a major pain in the ass but that’s really most of us, totally normal.
I could see it being a pain in the ass BUT at the same time I think it'd be nice to live in a small town in between the cities and you'd be able to get away from the hustle bustle of the big cities when you're off work and at your place in the small town.
New York to Philadelphia is about 90 miles. So if you picked the exact halfway spot, you're looking at 45 miles each way, every day. Is it doable? Sure. Is it desirable? I wouldn't think so.
If you're planning on doing it, I would plan on riding the commuter trains instead of driving. New Jersey Transit operates from Trenton up to New York. SEPTA operates from Trenton down to Philadelphia.
You will need to live in Trenton, the only city that connects the two. Philadelphia with the Riverline Tram and then PATCO in Camden or even SEPTA directly. To go to New York you can take the modern, fast, safe NJT commuter rail. The only problem is wearing yourself out with a tedious commute and the worst: you will have to live in Trenton.
And does anyone know anyone who has actually done this? And by commuting to both I mean freelancing on working on gigs and projects in both cities.
It's pretty normal although I would choose one or the other depending upon income of course and workload requirements. There are a couple low-cost transit options with the rail connection of SEPTA-NJ Transit through Trenton, FlixBus or Megabus. The buses are typically about an hour faster (2 hours versus 3 hours) and about the same cost ($20 one way). Amtrak has what amounts to almost hourly service most of the day and costs as little as $26 with advance notice and takes about an hour and fifteen minutes. If you look for housing near 3oth Street station in University City (near UPenn and Drexel U ) it would put you within minutes in many cases of Amtrak, SEPTA and Megabus.

A friend of mine lives in Princeton and commutes to Manhattan for work. It's about 50 minutes by train. I am not a fan of long commutes, but people do this kind of thing if that's what they want.
There is no reason it wouldn't be possible to commute to Philadelphia as well. It is closer actually, and they are well-connected.
Hamilton Township / Hamilton Square is definitely one of the most popular places to live to go back and forth. The train from Hamilton goes to Penn Station. All the highways lead into Philadelphia.
