“Hampton Roads” = Norfolk, Va Beach, Newport News, etc.
that area has also gone by other names like Tidewater, Coastal Virginia, among others over the years.
Is the point of this thread to come up with names, or share interesting names that already exist?
I was originally going for the former, but the latter is interesting, too, and maybe can be templates or ideas for how to generate names for other regions that do not currently have a spiffy name.
Around DC is known as the DMV. D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. Which, correct if me I wrong, is growing more and more to include Baltimore.
As an alternative, I always liked the Capital Region nickname.
Yup. I was going to say this. It typically does refer to the “DC Area,” but I think that if you are talking about CSA’s, everyone will assume it includes Baltimore.
I think the only issue with “the Capital Region,” is that it sounds like it is referring to DC.
I personally think “DMV” is the best acronym for the DC-Baltimore region since the name captures the entire region.
If the former, one funny idea I had was Greater Boston taking a page from Greater DC’s book and calling itself “the NMR” (NH + MA + RI).
Now we just need one for the NYC Tri-State Area...call NYC? (NJ, NY, CT).
