No idea exactly, but I see a fair amount of sail boats on Long Island and one thing I noticed is that the larger ones tend to be owned by people with decent incomes, even wealthy. Then there are smaller sailboats, especially for teens.

So my guess is look for areas with decent incomes as well as areas with large areas of sheltered waters like bays.

Saint Petersburg, FL is the top place I’ve personally seen for sailing. I’m sure San Diego and New England (Newport / Cape Cod) are very good too.

Not at all. Typically doesn’t rain in the summers in Seattle. Hasn’t rained in weeks. There’s been less than 0.5 inches of rain in Seattle since June. Climate becoming more like California. Also there aren’t really thunderstorms here and the sound is quite protected which makes for good sailing.

I lived in Seattle in 1981 so I am out of date. I visited a lot in 2013 and yes, I don't remember tons of rain in summer but I was in a much different part of Seattle than when I lived there. Micro climates & all.

Narraganssett Bay is pretty sheltered and the weather is gorgeous all summer, so I would expect some great sailing there. Of course, Chesapeake Bay is much larger, but which City would you to assign it as a "sailing city"?

I am going with Newport for now.

The SF-Oakland Bay is a large but it is cold and windy all summer.

Puget Sound makes Seattle a pretty great sailing town, but even in summer it can rain up till noon or so every day.

Florida would seem like it would have top cities for sailing, but I don't know much about Florida and sailing.

Puget sound area is dry as hell in the summer?? Coming from someone born, raised, and currently living here. There's a marine layer sometimes in the summer mornings and it burns off by noon if that's what you were referring to. And in Sept, Oct, Nov, into Dec it can be very foggy in the mornings but it tends to concentrate on certain hillsides, peninsulas, islands.

Seems like a sailing town.
I'm not a sailor but I always see lots of sail boats around Cleveland harbor, when hiking at Edgewater. I'm into the Lake Freighters myself, some links on sailing:

I’d think any decent sized Great Lakes city/area would fit. Many in that region have yacht and/or sailing clubs.

Yep, I'm not a big fan of sailboats, though MD's working skipjacks and old school sailing ships are awesome. But the Chesapeake, and the old city of Annapolis is known for its sailing culture.
