Or in cases where a bulk of the population is being counted twice (like Worcester/Boston) only go with the one with the bigger population.
I see Akron was not included and it meets the criteria and in a 40 mile radius, it is over 3.2 million. For this purpose, I'd make zero argument that Akron (and not Cleveland) is the the population "center" of Northeast Ohio.
Numbers don't lie, Akron is the center of population for Northeast ohio.

Just set it to a certain distance and just click on a city on the map. I used 40km. I'm not sure how much that is in miles but it seemed a big enough radius.
Yeah it's a great tool. The international comparisons are really what blows me away when comparing it to American urban centers. This country is majority suburban sprawl honestly.

Threshold is 1.5 million inhabitants.
25km/15.5mi from "downtown"/central point:
New York, NY (Manhattan) Union Square 14th st- 11,229,730
Los Angeles (Downtown) 5th/Flower Street- 6,375,594
Chicago (West Madison/S Kenton)- 4,322,838
Houston, TX Central Station Main/Rusk Street- 3,462,312
Washington, DC (Washington Monument)- 3,427,319
Philadelphia, PA City Hall- 3,317,395
Phoenix (Encanto/Central Ave)- 3,076,988
Miami-Hialeah (Hialeah Race Track)- 3,017,741
Dallas, TX (Union Station)- 2,805,946
Las Vegas, NV (North Main Street/East Stewart Avenue)- 2,621,525
Denver, CO Civic Center Park- 2,612,180
***Detroit, MI (Palmer Park)- 2,587,503
Boston, MA (Commonwealth Ave Bridge/Mass Turnpike)- 2,512,793
San Antonio, TX (Travis Park)- 2,248,733
*San Francisco Central Bay 2,426,937*
**San Diego, CA 28th Street/Upas/Pershing Drive- 2,363,203
Atlanta, GA (Five Points)- 2,224,056
Minneapolis, MN Hennepin/Washington Avenue North-2,161,537
Portland, OR (Pioneer Square)- 2,160,487
Seattle, WA (East Madison/Broadway)- 2,010,958
Baltimore, MD (West Mount Royal/N Howard Street)- 1,944,858
Orlando, FL City Hall- 1,886,412
San Jose, CA South Market/Park Avenue- 1,877,345
****Tampa is back! Howard Franklin Bridge-1,797,612
Sacramento, CA (California State Capitol)- 1,751,677
Austin, TX (Texas State Capitol)- 1,724,619
Columbus, GA (Capitol Square)- 1,670,613
*San Francisco is being calculated from the middle of the Bay itself, essentially where the maritime borders of Alameda County and SF meet just Southeast of the city, and due West of Alameda. The radius extends as far as the northern parts of Richmond, and Northwest up to Marin County, and just south of San Rafael. The full circle is still all SF MSA territory even at the southern end.
**San Diego clips the tip of Tijuana here a very small clip, but I did move the radi up some to 28th and Upas Streets, just below North Park, and East of the Zoo.
***Detroit, again nearly is impossible to capture without clipping Canada due to the position of Downtown Detroit being directly across the water from another country. In the case of San Diego, the Mexican border is still many miles away from Downtown. Without that piece of Windsor, Ontario included, I'd say Detroit's number would come down to about 2.3mil or so.
This also made me curious about El-Paso-Juarez. That population at this same radius of 15.5mi from the convention center of Downtown El Paso is 2,104,262, with the lion's share of that in Mexico. If anybody's wondering.
****Tampa is back due to the radi being placed in the center of the Bay like I did for SF. These two are the only major bay city exceptions where I'm not centering the radi over land.
The Miami radi is moved up to Hialeah. Miami is such a special case.

It's Crazy how packed Las Vegas and Phoenix is.
Even at 15 miles Vegas keeps up with Dallas and is more populated than Detroit and Boston.
I am seeing Vegas in a new light.

It doesn't look like the Texas cities do much at 15 miles. 25 miles is where they show how the uniform density ups the numbers.
Houston especially starts to put distance between the others at 25 miles.
Edit: I just noticed the top 4 cities at 15 miles match the top 4 in official city limits.

Yes. There's a number that are basically tapping out for the most part around 2-2.5 million. I will continue on in increments of 5km to see how far we can get with certain cities making the list...And yes we will notice some places drop on the list, and then shoot back up as radius expands. I'll highlight this going forward.

True that Vegas is basically done at 15M. But I think the OP will have to use another location for Boston for 25M.
Using his Boston location I only get 3,750,893 for Boston.
Denver is still keeping up at 3,144,137
Dallas jumps to 5,252,715
DC Jumps to 5,268,992
Phoenix is still ahead at 4,632,594
Miami is at 4,093,883
Philly is at 4,834,260
And Houston is waay ahead at 6,236,247
I'm guess the lain for Chicago will have to change too.
The OPs last location has Chicago taking in a ton of lake and is at 6,371,742
