1. California (Beaches galore, numerous theme parks and zoos, the eclectic urban scene in San Francisco, quaint cutural districts in San Diego, awesome outdoor recreation at places like Big Bear Lake.)

2. Florida (Beaches galore, numerous theme parks and zoos, vibrant nightlife for college students and adults alike.)

3. Nevada (Las Vegas alone is one of the most popular destinations in the country...and Tahoe is amazing.)

4. Hawaii (Need I explain this one? Beaches and leisure to the max.)

5. Texas (The sheer number of cities alone is enough to push TX into the top 5. So many different cities to experience - Houston, Austin, and San Antonio are all really fun. DFW has a few cool things to do as well, and lots of small beach cities too.)

6. Washington DC (So much history and culture. So many things to learn and experience. Everyone should visit the capital at least once.)

7. New York (NYC is the "cool" place to go. It's like the Europe of America, in the sense that it's considered just plain cool to go there.)

8. Massachusetts (Cape Cod + historical sites + Boston.)

9. Arizona (The Grand Canyon is a classic, and Sedona is beautiful as well. Lots of outdoor recreation. Scottsdale has good golfing opportunities.)

10. Colorado (Some of the greatest skiing in the country, great opportunities for hiking and camping and such, plus the city of Denver has some cool neighborhoods to visit.)

California, because everyone wants to visit at least once
New York, because the city is so big and is in many, many, many movies.
Arizona, because of the Grand Canyon, + Scottsdale and maybe Phoenix
Florida, because of the beaches and cool theme parks
Nevada, duh
Colorado, because of all the ski resorts, + Denver and Rocky Mtn National Park
Hawaii, because of the beaches and beautiful scenery
Utah is awesome
Oregon, too
even Illinois. (yes, Illinois)

Good list...besides NYC in New York, there is Niagara Falls, which borders Canada, containing nearby Toronto.

Kentucky has been overlooked

- the world's longest cave system (Mammoth Cave Nat'l Park)
- Abraham Lincoln & Jefferson Davis birthplaces
- Horse Farms and scenic country roads
- Big South Fork Nat'l River area (world's largest collection of natural arches)
- KY's lakes, including the largest in land area (KY L.) and water volume (L. Cumberland) east of the Mississippi R). Those 2 combined have more annual visitors than the Smokey Mountains
- Louisville Slugger Museum & Newport Aquarium

Maine. Vacationland. Beaches galore, zillions of islands along the coast, Mt. Desert island included, vast forests, mountains and some decent lakes to boot.

California, Hawaii, Utah, Oregon, Colorado, Montana are tops for me- but I love the outdoors. New York and D.C. are great city tourist attractions. Texas? That is laughable. Aside from what it might be as a place to live, no one it their right mind would go to Texas for vacation.
