Famous..by what measure of what period in what area?

Obviously Dodge City, Tombstone, Cheyenne are some that are probably universally known as legendary places that are still around these days. Even St Louis, Denver, and San Francisco were old west destinations that have thrived into today.

Since I'm most familiar with Colorado, if you want to look at places that were prominent enough to get brick architecture that are still alive today, Trinidad, Leadville, Creede, Cripple Creek, Central City, Breckenridge, Glenwood Springs, Aspen... nearly all of these had some claim to fame in their early years and are still around today.
