Which area has: low crime, good schools, and housing affordability.
We are looking to relocate (Florida is getting expensive and not worth it, to me) and want to stay on the East Coast.
Thanks.

If you think Fla. is expensive you definitely dont want anything from metro Washington DC on northward.

There are literally hundreds of areas which are less expensive than Florida, have lower crime, good schools and are east of the Mississippi. Why don't you tell us a bit more about what you're looking for? Big city? Small town? Mountains? Ocean? Lakes? Weather?

There are a gazillion former Floridians who have moved to where I live in Tennessee as well as to North and South Carolina. But before we can recommend specific areas you should tell us more what you're looking for.

Atlanta seems to be a very popular place for east coasters looking for a cheaper, but still vibrant and job-saturated city to relocate to. Since I moved to Atlanta, I have met at least a dozen people who have moved up from Florida in the past two years.

Housing is very cheap in Pittsburgh. I don't know if wages are correspondingly low. I think so.

NC, TN, KY are all really affordable.

Anything north of DC is likely to be even more expensive than Florida (with the exception of Pittsburgh, parts of Maine, and perhaps bits of New Hampshire and Vermont).

Also, you could try the Tallahassee area - it's not nearly as crowded or expensive as the rest of FL, and the hassle of moving would be reduced a bit, since you're staying in the same state.
