Expensive =/= good taste.
Not to mention Hudson, Pepper Pike & Rocky River.
Cleveland knows how to do suburbs.

Yes! Thank you for reminding me of these. If it weren’t for the weather I would have still lived there.

Correct. Pittsburgh has a paucity of desirable suburbs whereas Cleveland has a paucity of desirable city proper neighborhoods.

He posted and said $50,000 to $100,000 in Cleveland.

Depends on your standards. I think 400k in the Houston burbs gets you something really nice.

Same for the St. Louis metro area. $400,000 will buy a very nice house in the metro area. And the St. Louis area has a lot to offer. Plenty of cultural amenities, lots of music venues, and don't have to drive a great distance to get some nature.

We have one of the best zoos in the country, some charming neighborhoods...and while we don't have ocean coasts, we have river life. :-)

At least in the Midwest, the answer is Detroit.

Here's the largest cities in the Midwest and their median home prices last month according to Redfin:

1. Chicago - $350k (somewhat competitive)
https://www.redfin.com/city/29470/IL...housing-market
2. Minneapolis - $345k (very competitive)
https://www.redfin.com/city/10943/MN...housing-market
3. Lincoln - $300k (very competitive)
https://www.redfin.com/city/7163/NE/...housing-market
4. Columbus - $285k (very competitive) - Tie
https://www.redfin.com/city/4664/OH/...housing-market
4. St. Paul - $285k (very competitive) - Tie
https://www.redfin.com/city/15027/MN...housing-market
6. Cincinnati - $280k (very competitive)
https://www.redfin.com/city/3879/OH/...housing-market
7. Omaha - $275k (most competitive)
https://www.redfin.com/city/9417/NE/...housing-market
8. Kansas City - $270k (very competitive)
https://www.redfin.com/city/35751/MO...housing-market
9. Indianapolis - $248k (very competitive)
https://www.redfin.com/city/9170/IN/...housing-market
10. St. Louis - $235k (very competitive)
https://www.redfin.com/city/16661/MO...housing-market
11. Wichita - $229k (very competitive)
https://www.redfin.com/city/19878/KS...housing-market
12. Milwaukee - $200k (very competitive)
https://www.redfin.com/city/35759/WI...housing-market
13. Toledo - $135k (somewhat competitive)
https://www.redfin.com/city/19458/OH...housing-market
14. Cleveland - $116k (somewhat competitive)
https://www.redfin.com/city/4145/OH/...housing-market
15. Detroit - $86k (somewhat competitive)

Also, keep in mind that the median price isn't going to get you as far as it seems in some of the cities that have urban blight.

This is something that could easily be googled. There are 100's of articles on this as well.
