We have been all over the PNW looking for a small/medium place to raise our family. We love Port Townsend, but the paper mill exacerbates my son's asthma. I was all set to move to Poulsbo, but then my husband pointed out that the country's largest cache of nuclear warheads is 10 miles away at Bangor. It's not that I'm afraid they'll go off, I just worry about all the heavy metals in the area as a result of the sub activity. Corvallis seems like a possibility, but it looks like the Willamette River is so polluted you can't eat the fish. This is just a vent, I guess, and I know I'm being picky. We want to be close to the ocean, but I'm beginning to wonder if there's any clean water out there anymore. We've looked at the San Juans, and they're so expensive & remote, but they do seem to be cleaner. I'm not sure how I'd do on an island.
