Don't know if I put this in the right place or if I should post it in each state but if it needs to be moved feel free. Hubby and I presently live in central Fla, looking for less expensive, lower humidity, less chance of severe weather (tornados, wildfires, hurricanes, etc), and shopping other than Wal mart that doesn't require planning a day trip to do. What area's would those of you who are natives or relocated recommmed.
We are in our 60's, 1/2 retired, no children, are looking for a smallish area, under 10,000 perhaps with a larger city maybe 20 or so miles, need low cost of living (insurances, taxes, utilities, etc) medical facilities, airport an hour or so. A Target, Sam's Club or Costco, Best Buy (or that type), Barnes Noble or Books A Million, a fabric store (I do seamstress work at home) definately a Pet Smart (have several pets and can't beat the savings on pet supplies when on sale). As I said we have no children so schools are not a concern, we don't golf, play tennis or have need of a marina. Basicly we are keep to ourselves, live and let live type of people, hubby would spend entire day on porch reading papers and I love walking on quiet roads and reflecting on natures beauty. We are looking at North and South Carolina, and east Tennessee. Should also mention not fond of snow, a dusting at Christmas to keep in the season is enough. The Upstate of South Carolina, say between Anderson and Greenville or Spartanburg and north have some beautiful scenery, relatively mild winters and bearably summers. The humidity will be lower that Central Fl, and there's plenty of shopping in and around the Greenville/Spartanburg areas.
Those are actually three really nice areas; can't go wrong with any of them. In NC, I'd choose the Charlotte area. In SC, the Greenville/Spartanburg area. In ETN, the Knoxville area. They're all good areas, just take your pick!
Tn has no state income tax (except for dividends). Depending on your retirement funding this may impact your decision.
