What do I think about them?

Nothing, no more or less than what I think about anyone else.

It is not "assumed" that they came over the ice bridge, it is a theory supported by lots of facts. Anyone that has ever been around them and studied them can easily spot the very familier traits they all share. All meaning not just Native Americans and Eskimos, but Also the Siberian Chukchi, the Mongols, Kyrgyz, ect... One can not deny that they are related both in culture, traditions, geno and pheno types, and languages.

Though with the languages it really is different when a person goes due south in America and go west out in Asia but over the many centuries groups have developed there own languages, for example the ethnic Kyrgyz language is actually of Turkish origin.

They are all of the Mongoloid race, the Eskimos and Chukchi have very similiar languages of Paleo-Asiatic descent.

I think it is a shame that in a wink of an eye in relation to man's history, their cultures were all but wiped out. Its even sadder that the so called savages and less civilized nations of Asia actually have managed to preserve many of their native cultures much better than us cultured Americans have.

But forward to now, Native Americans need to be more assertive in America today and think a little outside their reservations. But anything they do seems to get hijacked by someone or some group who has other motives.

In my state we have tons of Indian reservations. They pretty much keep to themselves but the Indians own all the casinos in our state. They have never bothered me but I feel we took their land away from them. I know it has been an age old problem the fishing rights are not the same for the Indians as it is for the white man. It will always be a a squabble.

Here in WI the indians provide alot of employment for folks that aren't of the Native American heritage. I truly think that there culture is fine. It's to bad that some indians are losing populations of people that still speak the native language.

When I first moved to the Flathead Reservation, within a week or two I walked past two tribal members in their early twenties and the were speaking Salish. It almost sounds a little bit like Chinese.

As I stated before, I understand that there are theories stating that Native Americans are a form of Mongloids (though the land bridge theory was recently disproven), however, like many different culture's beliefs, most Native Americans consider themselves to be the First People, just like China believes, like Africans believe, etc. The point I was trying to make was that one shouldn't assume that they honestly believe your theories to theirs, they might have historical 'facts' as well to prove otherwise. For example, it is believed that the American Indians from the lower 48 were plagued with demons and vengeful spirits a long time ago. In order to rid themselves of them, they brought together their strongest and most powerful men and women to drive them North to the frozen tundra. This is the theory that American Indians have of how Eskimos came to be. Naturally the Eskimos have stories of how the weak and the not-so-powerful of their people had to move south so they could survive, and thus how the lower 48 American Indians came to be. I'm just saying that there are many different theories.

As for my question on the nuclear waste problem, I realize that power plants may not expose explicitly uranium, however, they do expose the people to nuclear waste. I have yet to hear peoples comments on this . . . I am really, really interested in what people think about it.

As far as traditions and culture is concerned, there have been sociological and anthropological studies that show that everyone in the world has similar cultures and traditions. The one example that comes to mind is the myth of dragons. Nearly all cultures have some form of a dragon or a dragon-like creature, with praise and fear of it. So as far as I'm concerned, one can draw all sorts of correlations between cultures and traditions, but remember, correlation does not mean causation.

Speaking of the Chippewas much of their land in the pays den haute used to belong to the Sioux and Cheyenne whom the Chippewas, in search of furs drove from the woods onto the plains where the Sioux and Cheyenne then fell upon and dispossesed the Kiowas and Crows and Pawnees and......well you get the picture.

So yeah, the land originally belonged to Indians but which ones and when is rather complicated. Like any other history I reckon.

both natives

thats what some non natives think of where we came from. Were not all from mongolia. WE went through our own way of coming to this world.

This is an older post that I found interesting to read through.

But I have to comment on this part of Originator's quote. I absolutely refuse ~ will NOT ~ use the term "Native American". I am Native American, born here, but of European descent. I always say "Native Indian", it is much, much more accurate.
