I'd like to know if anyone can tell me how one of my parents can get american citizenship.
I am a duel citizen american and australian as I was born here. my mother would like to work in the US, but is only an Australian citizen. Technically my mother and father, who is only a US citizen, are married, but theres no chance of him sponsering her for a green card.
with her son and husband both being US citizens with social security numbers and all that, what are some ways to get her citizenship? She's filing for a greencard, but is that the only way?
Generally you have to be a permanent resident for 3 years as the spouse of a US citizen before you are eligible for citizenship. If she's lived abroad the entire time I believe the green card is her only option at this point (American culture has a "loyalty" standard which usually isn't met by someone never having lived here).
