Since many of the state threads ask about total taxation, I thought I would post a list by state of the total annual tax burden per state.
The list is average per capita for 2005. We shall see how the change goes after the 2006 tax year.
Amounts in thousands. Per capita amounts in dollars)
Total tax Total tax per capita
Rank State Amount Rank State Amount
Based on a 30K annual income, income, property, state sales
Keep in mind this is total state theft.
NH does not have an income tax, but now taxes dividends.
Also, isn't your Property tax rates rather high? Gas tax?
Almost like my father and I chat about WV.
People from Maryland run there thinking they are getting this big break because of property taxes being about 50% less.
Only difference the income tax is 6.5% vs 4.75% Sales tax of 6% vs 5%
Utility taxes, Car taxes, Dog taxes, etc., come to find out they are only getting about a $50.00 break on every 30K., with way less infrastructure.
Does this account for county taxes? How about excise taxes? Property taxes are purely local, not statewide; do they take the average?
The state has always grabbed a portion of my property taxes here in Georgia and when I lived in IL, NJ, VA, and WV.
Your also paying benefits for government employees, pensions, FICA, etc.
OK I wasn't saying it isn't so. I was just saying a more recent list staes othewise along with several others. But after reading it better I noticed it is based ON 30 k A year. So that would throw a bunch of #'s off as most here in NH make more than that. So in esence this is correct but the others are as well. LOL
In California, on 30K, you couldn't afford Real Estate. I don't know how Property Taxes figure into that.
