I lean toward hotter climates, but I really like Las Vegas' climate. Its almost always dry and sunny and I don't feel it's too hot, but then again I live in Phoenix. Las Vegas also has a change in weather throughout the year, something coastal California and Florida don't have much of.
I would say Atlanta. Most of you may laugh but it's a matter of personal preference and to each his own. I don't mind humidity in the summer time and I love the afternoon thunderstorms that cool down a hot day. I also like Atlanta in the fall when the oak leaves start changing colors. I like how the winters aren't extremely cold like the Midwest and Northeast. Snowfall was a rare occurance, so its more appreciated there and not loathed like up north. One inch would close schools and the entire city. Also in the spring, you have dogwood and peach blossoms everywhere (nice to look at, but bad for allergies).
Other cities climates I like are Denver and Los Angeles.
The last time I went skiing in Big Bear was just after a storm a week earlier dumped a few feet of new snow. Then we were driving back down the mountain and b/c of some Santa Ana winds you could see all the way to LA on the way down and when we got back down to the valley floor it was probably still around 75-80 degrees after sunset. Nowhere else in the US that even possible, to ski during the day then be back home in 75 degree weather afterwards. I don't think a 4 hour drive in any direction from Chicago will bring you that kind of variety.
I have gone to the top of the Sandia Mountain here in Albuquerque when it had snow on top(probably wasnt enough to ski with) and I was shivering the whole time cause I didnt have a jacket cause in the city it was still in the mid 70's, I think it was in November.

I agree, even more so in southern New Mexico
You can ski at SKi Apache Resort in the morning
then play golf or tennis in the afternoon in Alamogordo
There are days in winter where Alamogordo has
daytime high's in the 70's ..even low 80's
or same thing if you head east to Roswell or Carlsbad
What city has the mildest weather? not too hot not too much snow & no tornadoes or hurricanes.
Both criteria rule Chicago out (mild weather and no tornadoes).
San Diego, like any city - has different crime stats depending upon where in the greater metro area you are. But San Diego definitely meets the original criteria.
