Denver and Portland are 2 of the cities I'm most interested in, but I would go w/Denver first since Portland seems to have fewer jobs and more social problems (just going by what I have read on C-D).
Lack of public transportation/walkability is a deal breaker in my opinion...as far as I know none of the other cities on that list have any. Burlington might be bikeable and walkable and is probably a very pleasant place...but I can't deal with New England winters.
Nashville is surprisingly charming and cosmopolitan for a town of its' size in the South. I'd happily live there, or somewhere nearby like Franklin or Murfreesboro (my grandmother's hometown).
IN order:
Denver- good city, great outdoors
Portland- very good city, great outdoors, but too much rain compared to Denver
Boise- Great outdoors, mediocre city
Burlington- Nice area, good outdoors, near bigger cities to visit
Nashville- decent city, mediocre outdoors
Wilmington- nothing city, near other places of interest.
Huntsville- It's in Alabama. Nuff said.
