After more than two years of unemployment in my Northeast state, I'm ready to move almost ANYWHERE if it means I can get a job.

I have a bachelor's degree and 20 years of work experience, and I'm down to applying for part-time bank teller jobs. And here's the worst part: I'm not even getting calls back on those!!!

My dream job is working in Marketing, specifically Internet Marketing, but at this point I'll take any job that a. will provide me with a salary to keep a roof over my head and reduce my debt load; b. offers medical benefits.

Austin, Houston, Dallas, Seattle, Atlanta, Raleigh-Durham, Charlotte, Des Moines and Omaha are all on my short list.

And please -- don't turn this thread into a whine-a-thon about politics or other such stuff. All I want to know is: WHERE ARE THE JOBS?

NYC, Chicago, LA, Houston. For marketing, you'll obviously find the most in NYC, Chicago, and LA.

In L.A., I see high school kids working as Tellers at the Banks. That should tell you something. They start you off at 10 dollars an hour. LA, Chicago, NYC...Large cities...etc.

I'm pretty sure you could get a job with First National Bank, Union Pacific, Woodmen, Mutual of Omaha, Kiewit, Conagra, or Berkshire Hathaway.

Pretty much, the entire swath of cities across the South from Raleigh, Winston-Salem to Charlotte, Greenville to Atlanta, Birmingham, and all of Texas. Throw in Nashville and Huntsville, too.

Where I live (Alabama) unemployment is about 4.5%, with a good deal of industry locating to the state, plus banking, healthcare, aerospace, etc. etc. At the beginning of the year, Birmingham's unemployment was at about 2.6%.

Minnesota - lots of professional positions available and lower cost of living than many of its metropolitan counterparts. You mention your dream job as internet marketing - do you have marketing experience? I would suggest only going back 10 -12 years on your resume and practicing creative ways to explain a two year gap of unemployment (bonus points if you were stay at home mom or dad, volunteered, etc.).
