felt down here but was not that big, news sites are saying it's a 5.8 which is fairly large and close to a 6.0.

How much damage was there? And yes it was a 5.8, thanks God it was a 6.0 otherwise is would have been 10 times stronger.

So far there aren't any reports of damage or injury, usually one that size might throw some things off the shelves at worst.

Yep. It was a 5.8. I'm about 20 miles from the epicenter in South Orange County and there was a decent amount of rolling. My pool water splashed out and my lights were all shaking. It wasn't like Northridge Quake when I lost two chandeliers though and my driveway craked. My son called from his high school where he is taking a summer class and they evacuated the building but are ok. The shaking only lasted about 20-30 seconds so it wasn't really long. My parents are six miles from the epicenter and said their paintings fell off the wall and some cracked. A lot of shelf stuff fell also (this is what most people are reporting happend to them on the news too so that is good).

The news was reporting some damage at John Wayne Airport and Ontario Airport where there is runway damage and they said Cal State LA had some water pipes break and the road uplifted. Lots of government stuff was shown evacuating like LA City Hall and the Courthouse, places like Disneyland were closing the rides for inspection, Griffith Observatory was evacuated, etc... Lots of people in the sky scrapers in downtown LA were calling in saying it felt like it lasted a few minutes due the the swining of the buildings to resist falling down.

It sounds like everyone in the Southland is pretty much ok. No reports yet of any buildings falling down or severe damage to the buildings that can't be fixed. This wasn't the "Big One" everyone thinks will happen. All in all, it looks like our good construction standards have paid off for this size. Now if we get over 6.0, then we are talking a lot more destruction. Arizona isn't beachfront yet!!

It was initially designated a 5.8, then later downgraded to a 5.4. It shook my office building in Woodland Hills (west San Fernando Valley) pretty well! Then a bunch of idiots from the floors above us came downstairs and went outside, which is a pretty dumb place to be. You become a target for possible glass from shattered windows, not to mention other debris!

That's all i saw on the news channels most of the day here in Las Vegas. Maybe it was a foreshock...bigger one to come?
You never know in California. Since they haven't had a big one in awhile, they probably all miss them.
