tehehe, give me your thoughts please.Im a rock guitarist that once Im relocated will want to form-join a cover band playing classic and newer rock.So where are the good places that have a decent amount of bars-clubs to play out, with decent crowds?
Forget about California,NewYork not interested there.I have a few ideas where I want to move to but want to see your opinions.Besides finding the right local' for a decent priced house, available day work,a place not to far from said nightlife.
If I stay in Fl being close to Orlando-Tampa would be ideal for me but thoughts on other places please.
I third Austin. It's regarded as the "Live Music Capital of the U.S." after all. Another suggestion is Kansas City. There's a surprisingly large music and arts scene there. Ditto for Minneapolis. Any college town is also a good bet, although it would be best to pick a town somewhat close to a major city just due to a higher number of venues in case you exhaust or can't get gigs for whatever reason at the local venues.
I second Las Vegas, which has TONS of music opportunities! My friend moved there last year, and has been pretty successful with a punk band... Seattle would be another good city, seeing as it was the "birthplace of grunge".
Hartford CT area may be of some interest. A lot of groups have gotten their start on WCCC. We were hearin Puddle of Mudd, Mudvayne and a lot of other bands on that Hartford station well before they went mainstream. Seems like a friendly area to try to get a start in. Access to NYC, Boston, Springfield MA, New Haven CT, and Providence RI if you get on a roll. Good employment and decent wages in the area as well. Check it out n Good luck!
Bah. Not Seattle. The music scene there died with "Grunge" and has really lost it's label as a music city. Especially since legislation is making it harder and harder to have a band actually play in a bar/club and most are moving towards DJ's.
We just moved from Seattle to Austin. We are a young family with kids now, so we don't do the whole music scene as much anymore... but I would offer Austin as a choice. From what I have seen/heard/read it's thriving!
