Why are Scottsdale and Boulder on this list? True, they are both more exspensive places to live than Phoenix and Denver respectivly, but that doesn't make them exclusive cities like NYC, LA, etc. By adding them you also need to add Bellevue Washington, Pasadena California, Bethesda Maryland, and Boca Raton Florida to the list as well. Scottsdale and Boulder - expensive by region and design, a slight bargain when compared to some of the others that you have listed.

I don't think there is much debate that New York City is the most expensive on the list though. I would imagine that not far behind would be LA and SD. I've only heard second hand about SD real estate, but I know from being a prior resident, you better making the serious bucks to be able to afford even a simple upper middle class neighborhood. I've actually seen a 2 bed, 1 bath "hut" with no yard, bad neighborhood, and low performing schools sell for over 700K! That was a few years back, and if memory serves me right, it actually was bought and a tear down was put in it's place. That's LA for you though....

NY hands down, any city that charges anywhere from 600-1,000 a month to live in low-income housing projects gets my vote

Then find proof that San Francisco is more expensive when clearly every sort of list there is shows that New York is most expensive. Are you disagreeing with economists? I've experienced both and yes there are some cheap housing (by NY standard) right in the middle of San Francisco.

NYC is the only United States city that's in the World's Top 50.

I have trouble believing Jakarta or J-buuurg are more expensive than San Fran. Actually, I have trouble believing Chicago, LA, and Miami are more expensive than SF.

Well believe it because it's true.

Cost of living in the United States is much cheaper than abroad, for one.
