I pronounce them the same. Only the spelling means different things.
The burgler didn't get cot.
You don't sleep on a caught.

Same as rite, right, and write.

Almost precisely the same. Both /ka?/ (the "?" being a glottal stop)

I pronounce them the same. Also Don and Dawn are pronounced the same. I'm from Southern Indiana (on the Ohio River).

I pronounce them differently. I say Cot like "kaht", and Caught like "caught" (same sound used in "dog").

Also I'm "Inland North" according to that quiz (I live in southern WI). Pretty accurate.

No, differently.

RE: the name Don, based on my observations,
it's "Dahhhn" in Western NY where I am from originally;
in NJ and NYC, it's "Duwin"
in the upper Midwest (where I live now) and most of the rest of the US and Canada, it's "Dawn"

For some reason, the name Sean is pronounced "Shawn" in upstate NY (as it is in most of the rest of the country except NYC area, where it is Shuwin"), but here in MN, it is "Shahhhn".

Funny language, huh?

I grew up in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre...as far as I remember we pronounced both words the same. However we use...ain't all the time and heyna....constantly...."heyna" seems to mean don't you think so too???

I pronounce them differently... cot - like "kaht", short and sweet, one syllable - rhymes with "pot". And caught like "kaw-ut", with a "w" sound and a short "ut" making almost a 2nd syllable - rhymes with "brought". I'm from the Pacific NW.
