So me and my girlfreind are looking for a new place to live. We currently live in southern cali. We would be going to school ( currently in community college) and working full -time in retail/restraunt jobs to live ( probably with student loans also) We need a place with a good job market and a decent cost of living. (around 600 a month in rent) . Anyways.. lemme know any ideas u guys might have. Currently looking at : Las vegas and Seattle area(tacoma). Thanks!

The only thing I know about Vegas is the strip and that won't help you one little bit...

Tacoma....My son was at Ft Lewis so I visited this area often. IMO...I wouldn't live in Tacoma...it has a really cool downtown but that's about the only good place I saw. I liked Lakewood better. It might be better for you rent wise too.
Lakewood caters to alot of military personel so I don't know if the great rental rates they offer them will apply to you

If you can move further east you might try Omaha. The economy is still strong there and the cost of living is reasonable. If you want a larger city then try Indianapolis or Columbus, OH. Each of these places has good colleges in or near the city and the job markets are stronger than most metro areas of any size.

You could a nice 1 BR in St. Louis for 600 month. There are also plenty of colleges near there and a decent cost of living. I'm not expert on the job market, but if you're working retail/restaurants it seems like it wouldn't be that hard to find a job in basically any big city.

Indianapolis has good colleges, but the job market STINKS here. Its much worse than alot of other places. I have been out of college for a year and I cant find a job (i graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelors in Marketing....didnt have an internship, though, but still the job market is horrible here for people with experience). Dont move to Indy. Now, Columbus, OH is a different story....

It's so easy to find a job in Omaha.... sooo many companies to work for and my rent was like $550 a month there. Portland is cool, cheap-ish ($600-800) to rent but not to buy a house. No sales tax, you don't pump your own gas.... but it took me 6 months to find a job and I have 8 years experience in my field of work.

It all depends on what you're looking for, dude. I'll second the St. Louis recommendation. There are several excellent universities in St. Louis. Have you thought about Grand Rapids? It'll be one heckuva change from SoCal. But...it's quite the town. Several good schools, very young population, decent economy, lots of good restaurant jobs, etc.
