Georgia is going to be the next decade's Texas. I was riding down to Midtown today, and I swear I was in Little Mexico and I've never been to Texas but I imagine that's how the borders are...

But really, we have great educational institutions like Texas (UGA, Tech, Emory, State............), a good number of wealthy folks, affordable housing, the same kind of conservative ruling that has prevented us from going the way of California, FREE COLLEGE (free at least at UGA, Tech, State, if you can handle a 3.0 with the HOPE scholarship).

The HOPE Scholarship in Georgia is very attractive

New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania offer the middle class the highest standard of living with higher wages and benefits.

Or maybe because it's true.

While Texas has a lot of things going for it, when it comes to standard of living, there are many things it could improve upon: education, healthcare, homeless children, crime (in cities), and environmental quality. Having a big pay check for a small portion of the population doesn't mean much, and being I visit Texas quite often, outside of house prices, I really don't find anything to be noticeably cheaper then where I live or travelled to for work.

My opinion? Probably Washington. No income Tax, property tax is lower then some of the other no income tax states, has a fairly good rating in education and healthcare, a fairly strong and diverse economy, and the environment around their cities (IMO) makes life seem less stressful.

Wages aren't everything. NYC, Long Island, and much of New Jersey are very expensive. I have family on Long Island and Long Island makes Boston seem cheap.

Other parts of the country might not pay as much, but the cost of living is much lower. I know someone that couldn't afford a house in Massachusetts, but could afford a 5 bedroom house in Georgia.

You'd think there'd be many studies and graphs with the facts already spelled out for the curious.

I'm still waiting for one saying that Texas has a higher standard of living FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS...
...as the OP requested.

That could change even within NY State. Syracuse is very affordable for the NE, but our wages have taken a bit of a hit. If you have a decent job around here though, you can get a nice house.
