My score was 35. Although the phrase car-dependent is a perfect description of my area, the score would have been much higher (and misleading) if bookstores, movie theaters, and fitness centers weren't 10-15 miles away. A lack of sidewalks, bad driving, climate, and isolation combine to make this place car dependent.

Wow, I would like to see the data files they used to come up with the scores. Not even close for my small town. They have gas stations listed as grocery stores, stores listed under two similar names but in different locations (ex. Scottville EZ mart and State Street EZ-Mart -- same place and NOT 1/2 mile apart). The school is listed as a restaurant, and they have a restaurant listed I have never even heard of as well as coffee shops that are non existent. Closest park they say is a mile away from my location, but there is really one a block away that is WAY bigger than the one they have listed (they have a Campground listed as the park, guess the swing set counts as a park).

The site may be close for larger communities, but for the smaller ones I checked that I know well, it isn't even close to being right.

My neighborhood is walkable if you don't mind getting mugged or shot or ran over by a crazy driver. Union County, NJ. And we actually got rid of our car when we moved here thinking it would be great to walk everywhere.

22 out of 100, within city limits... I'd say it is worse... as ...there are NO SIDEWALKS nor BIKELANES to get to the places it came up with so unless u want to walk in a ditch or walk in traffic... :/ The closest thing is a gas station 1 mile away.

Also I found this funny, the bookstore they listed, is a warehouse. The coffee shop they listed, is a Krispy Kreme, the grocery store they listed is a generic brand gas station, the drug store, is a winn dixie, the park listed is a gated school ground, the preschool, is somebodies house. Not that there ARE any they missed... but these aren't places I would bother walking to even if they were closer.

54...Not bad for a first ring suburb and probably could be higher considering that it left some things out.
