California State Capital in Sacramento, CA
-A little small in my opinion for the most populous state, but it is an attractive building.

The Governor's Mansion in Sacramento. No governor has actually lived in the official residence since Reagan left in in 1967. I assume they don't want to live in such an old home.

Schwarzenegger's choice was to remain in his 11,000 square foot estate in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles so his children didn't have to move. When he is in Sacramento, he has a suite at the Hyatt Regency near the capital and gets there by private jet.

Iowa's current state capitol, (in Des Moines) built in 1886. The dome is 24k gold leaf.

Iowa's first state capitol, (in Iowa City) built in 1840. It's now the centerpiece of the University of Iowa campus.

Iowa's governor's residence, Terrace Hill. Built in 1869, donated to the state in 1970--before that time Iowa had no governor's residence.

The capitol building of my home state, Massachusetts, built in 1798:

And the old state house, built in 1713 - the Declaration of Independence was read from the balcony to jubilant crowds of Bostonians on July 18, 1776:

Massachusetts has no official governor's residence.

The New Hampshire state house is the oldest state capitol building in which legislators still meet in the original chambers; and, amazingly, the state legislature is the fourth-largest legislative body in the English-speaking world (424 members; about 1 per 3,000 citizens):

The official governor's residence of NH is the modest Bridges House, although the current governor doesn't live there. I do like the added touch of the state tree, paper birches, in the yard:

The Massachusetts capitol building is one of the only ones outside of Iowa I think I could identify on sight. Probably because I watched The Departed about 12 times...
