OK..now maybe I'm missing some important fact...but how does going back to school in the middle of the hottest part of summer fit into what your saying? Don't the school systems have to use increased energy to air condition the schools, and aren't the kids more uncomfortable on buses?
Last I checked, at least around here, June and September are cooler than July and August, so your comment makes zero sense, at least to me.
August can get downright nasty. I don't blame kids for not wanting to go outside. If they're inside, you might as well have them in school. The US has a fall through spring school system. It'd be hard to put July into the school year, but by ending early, they can cut into part of August.
In other words, late May/June/July would promote more play outside (active play) than late June/July/August (inside = video games and movies).

you're right but if that kid doesn't want to go outside around 6 or 7pm in august, then they are just a weak lazy you know what (not all of them but most of them because remember there ARE exceptions). and it is the parents' fault if they're not playing outside. Playing inside is the worst thing a kid can do because that means vegging out in front of the television. That means they'll have no social skills, will probably be overweight, and will have weak character/attitude because they didn't get sun/strength from playing outside like kids were meant to.

That wasn't quite what I was saying...I think you got it a bit backwards. Who keeps their kids inside during the summer? Our kids used to play outside all winter and ski/board in the snow in 20 degree weather. They sure aren't hanging inside because it's 90 degrees outside. I was referring to the school systems having to cool the schools during the hottest part of the year.
You say that isn't fair, but my friend who attends school in Kentucky says that Kentucky gets more vacations then Wisconsin. She attended school here prior to moving to Kentucky. She likes how the school calender is down there versus ours. In Kentucky she gets off for days like Martin Luther King Jr. day, I realize it's a holiday but I'm not sure about taking they school day off.
