Do you ever find yourself torn between climates? I live in PA, and really, when it's cold and windy in winter, I wish for warmth. When it's hot and sticky in summer, I want nothing more then a dry, cool day. It seems like I cannot please myself. I've considered states with very cold snowy climates and places with very warm climates. I do sort of like 4 seasons, but the idea of consistent warmth appeals to me, with one minor issue. I really do like snow. I really, really like to see snow. Not nessacarily a foot, but at least a few inches to cover everything.

One state I had considered, Florida, doesn't really get snow. Sometimes frost, which at least is something white, but no seasonal snow. Plus, when it gets to be December, if I were in Florida, I'd be feeling weirded out. December is a month of snow, hot chocolate and Christmas, and it would just feel weird with warm weather at this time.

Anyone have any ideas for a place that blends my ridiculous climate wants? Heck, hopefully you can even deduce what I want from that convoluted paragraph!

Southcentral Alaska. Although we tend to get a foot or more of snow. But it's not humid so the cold is not so bad...and the heat is just hot, not muggy. And we have 4 seasons...just not the same colors as back east. It was 47 above this evening at my house and rained today. 2 weeks ago it hit 35 below. We had a couple foot of snow but it's melting quick. Hopefully in March we'll get another couple foot. Sure is pretty after a fresh snow.

You'd like the climate in Lake Tahoe! I lived in South Lake Tahoe for 2 years, and I thought it was the perfect weather. Winters get lots of snow (unless it's a dry year, like right now), and it gets cold without being Minnesota/Alaska FRIGID - does occasionally drop below zero, but usually night-time lows average 15-25 degrees. The summers are generally warm, with daytime averages around 75-85, and crisp mountain nights of 40-50 degrees. It's a nice dry heat too, so you don't get that awful east-coast & southern humidity. Finally, it does have a slight change of seasons for spring & fall, but these aren't too dramatic... the trees don't lose their leaves (evergreen type? whatever's the opposite of deciduous), so one thing you'll miss is the colorful fall foliage. Also, snow isn't uncommon during these seasons, and it's even been known to snow in July!! Anyway, this was the first place that came to mind... might be too much snow for your taste, but I'd take that over a muggy summer.

I never thought of Lake Tahoe. Thanks! I'll look into it. It sounds great.

Ditto Southcentral Alaska. I always picture Alaska as this frozen wasteland with igloos, but it's actually just like any other state. That's amazing to me.

Santa Fe, NM, or in that general area. The summers can be warm but since the humidity is nil you find a shady spot and you are cool. You get some snow in the winter, but not much (except in the higher elevations).

You're welcome, and it IS a great place! Sure it's a bit isolated (1 hour to Reno, 2 hours to Sacramento), but that's a small price to pay for these views:

Look into Nashville, Tn if you want to remain on the east coast.

heh
Not in North Florida. This morning, I woke up to 32 degrees.
I made hot cocoa for my son. And the sand at the beach *looks* like snow.
Last year, it did feel a little strange at Christmas. This year I was used to it.

Mmmmm... I love Alaskan scenery. I've always wanted to live there, but I'm just not ready to move that far away yet. I have visited, though, and it's an amazing place!!
