Again, the Phoenix urban area's sprawl is much different from other cities in that it is more of a dense sprawl.

I voted other because I think LA is the most sprawling city.

spread out and least dense are two different things.

The LA Area(Including Ventura, OC and IE) is not low density but is vastly spread out. Like 100+miles wide.

As far as population, Isnt Phoenix is bigger than Charlotte and Austin combined?

I mean, that would also contribute to its large size--it has over 4 Million people.

It's population is bigger, but when you look at the metro area and land area. PHX takes in LOTS of land. With about 9.3k sq. miles it only has a population of about 4 million. It's metro area with about 16k sq. miles only has a population of about 4.3 million.

16k square miles? LOL How did you come up with that number? Maricopa County as a whole only has 9,224 sq miles and Greater Phoenix is only 2000 sq miles which is still large, but not are large as you make it seem. In addition, the Phoenix area has many open spaces including the largest municipal park in the country.

The cities of Charlotte and Austin each have less land areas than the city of Phoenix, but both also have smaller populations and lower densities.

If you are a speaking about density like the OP stated, that is incorrect.
