My picks:
Washington - beautiful, cosmopolitan Seattle, Puget Sound, the San Juan Islands, the beaches, Mt. Rainier, the Cascades, the forests, the rain (yes, I LOVE the rain)...*sighs*
Hawaii - well duh
California - see Hawaii, but it's damn overcrowded
Oregon - the dunes, the beaches, Portland (a decent city), Mt. Hood, Crater Lake, the parks, the fact that it isn't overcrowded, the wildlife...
Massachusetts - Boston, the cute little towns, Cape Cod, the universities
Vermont/New Hampshire - Although they are both not my cup of tea, they've got the beautiful trees, forests, the mountains.
Maine - the coast!
Colorado - the Rockies, the parks, Boulder, Denver...
North Carolina - Haven't really been to all of it but Wilmington/Cape Fear was nice.

what do you mean Californias overcrowded? everyone says that on this forums but they never seem to live here....like explain to me how so and the effects it has on life
anyways SoCal all the way...densest region in america, diverse, free spirited, opportunity, hollywood, entertainment, culture, excellent weather, beaches, women etc etc
Michigan - The Mackinac Island alone is enough to put this on my list, Frankenmuth is also a town I loved. I would really like to visit Traverse City. Too bad its all overshadowed by the ghettos of SE Michigan.
Pennsylvania - A nice long state with Pittsburgh, Kennywood, and McConnels to the west. Historical attractions like Gettysburg, Dutch towns to the east.
Virginia - Another lovely state with historical towns in the northern part, tall mountains in the southwest part, coastal plains with southern towns in the southeast, and Virginia Beach in the far southeast corner. I go to Sandbridge Beach every year which has all of the laid-backness that coastal NC has without being to far from the boardwalk.
- Ocean
- Mountains
- High Desert
- Dunes
- Waterfalls
- Fossil Beds/Volcanic sites
- Crater Lake
- Trees
- No sales tax (property tax is high though)
- No self service gas stations (which kind of sucks when you are in a hurry)
- Portland is the only big city but lot's of cute towns (Astoria, Bend, Eugene, Ashland)
and lots of scary town's too......

California's not overcrowded, but I think people see the population (approaching 40 million) and assume that we're running out of land. Also, I think most people who say this haven't spent much time out of the cities in CA (which can be extremely dense), and fail to appreciate just how much open space is left.
Take a trip down 395, spend some time in Lee Vining, Bishop, or Lone Pine, and then tell me that CA is overcrowded.
Colorado: So colorful and the most beautiful sceanary and best little towns New Mexico: Beacuse i was born and raised here, and its so awesome here in so many ways, and not so overpopulated..yet haha Florida: Nice beaches, great place to live or to take a great vacation.
PS Alabama! Great, varied natural assets and nice, unique cities. The only problem is politics at every level.
